2 quarter final games were played Saturday--
11th seeded Virginia Tech (14-3-5) beat 3rd seeded Connecticut (20-3-1) 1-0 in Storrs, CT.--
2nd seeded Wake Forest (20-2-2) beat 10th seeded Notre Dame (14-5-5) 1-0 in Winston-Salem, NC.--
Virginia Tech will play Wake Forest in the College Cup semifinals on Friday, Dec. 14 at SAS Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
The 2 ACC teams played to a 3-3 draw on October 5 at Virginia Tech.
Wake Forest is making it's second consecutive trip to the soccer Final Four. They lost in the semifinal to eventual champion UC-Santa Barbara last year.
Note that Bradley played at Wake Forest on September 9 and lost 3-0.
The other 2 quarterfinal games are today (Sunday, 12/9)--
Bradley at Ohio State at 12:00 noon CST
and
University of Illinois-Chicago (13-5-6) at Massachusetts (16-7-1) at 11:00 am CST
The winners of these 2 games will play in the other semifinal game on Friday, Dec. 14 in Cary, NC.
The NCAA Division II soccer championship was won last Sunday by Franklin Pierce of New Hampshire (17-2-4) over Lincoln Memorial of Tennessee (20-4-1) 1-0 with a goal in the 89th minute--
The Division III championship was won Nov. 24 by Middlebury College (17-2-3) in a shootout over Trinity of Texas (23-0-1), after the game was tied 0-0 after regulation and 2 OTs. It was the only blemish on Trinity's record which had been undefeated and untied going into the championship game.
