Now, I suppose I should state right away that I didn't see the SportsCenter coverage...so I'm basing these comments on the previous posts' reports of the coverage.....

As a Peoria outsider prior to, and after, BU, I can definitely say that Peoria is definitely underrated as far as cities go. Unfortunately, whether it's right or not, everybody has to admit, for whatever reason, Peoria has a bad rap. I think it's great that everybody's standing up for Peoria and not taking it, it's great to have pride in your city. It's good for everybody to let ESPN know that their coverage was really bush league and cheap "journalism." Putting Peoria in Indiana is absolutely mind boggling that they could blow such a simple thing as the proper location, that says A LOT about their legitimacy as a "news" outlet. Quite obviously to use the angle they did shows that they're more into "entertainment." Wasn't it Mark Twain that said, "Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story." That's certainly what ESPN did here, although it wasn't a good story.....

By the way, what's up with Coach Versace? I thought he was running for Congress? When I saw him in the halftime piece, I initially thought Lee Hall was interviewing a homeless guy! So much for lookin' sharp and lookin' like you should be a Congressman.....
A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

I heard no one is running agaisnt Versace, so I guess he doesnt have to impress anyone.

BTW, I didnt hardly recognize him either, but he didnt look homeless to me, just casual, and much older. And his hair is tame now, and his crazy hair was always sort of his trade mark look, wouldnt have known who he was if I saw him on the street.

I don't think Versace has any opposition from the party he is running for.

However, I am eyeballing a couple from the other party. I may not know much on local politics, but I like what I have heard from J Morris.

Murph, never did buy that argument. How many players on the Cubs, Sox or Bears are from Illinois? Wouldn't be surprised if St. louis and Green Bay had more. When you grow up rooting for a team you don't worry about what state they play in. I root for one in Chicago, the one that won a World Series in my life time, and one in Green Bay. So I guess I'm only half bad. Also, the only game in Peoria the last 10 years that even came close to last night's was when Illinois came to town.

The fact is, ESPN Sportscenter has been losing its luster for years. They are an entertainment industry. They have to make "interesting" headlines any way they can. You can't really blame Linda Cohn because most of there scripts are written by editors and behind the scenes journalists. Linda and the gang just stand up there and read from the script monitor day in and day out. What got me was that they put Peoria in freakin IN, I mean come on, one of the journalists obviously researched Peoria to know about the 2nd Walmart, i'm sure they saw Illinois mentioned multiple times. At least they could of mentioned that Peoria has some of the best high school championships in Peoria, Hersey Hawkins, Jim Thome, Shaun Livingston, Caterpillar and the list goes on. Reminds me of why I get all my sports highlights from the internet now.

You know, they could have at least classed it up a little and made reference to "World Famous" Big Al's ...

I laughed because that places sucks. Elliott's is way better.

It was a joke, literally. He kept talking how Peoria is one of the nicest cities in Indiana etc. the final question was great though. So, don't you think the promotes the stereotype that ESPN is Eastern Seabord Programming Network? Uh, What? I couldn't hear you... Anyway...

                          But yeah nothing earthshattering.
