Since I've finally got a chance to watch a game via (good) TV, I think now I understand why Collins loses his minutes. For the English majors reading this, you can see I said "Collins loses his minutes" which implies that it's more his fault than Coach Les' decision to bench him.
Watching tonight's game, there were numerous instances in which I saw Collins "space out" on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Unfortuately, I don't mean "space out" in the spread the floor sense, I mean it in the mental sense. He seemed to basically look lost or just stand on the floor while the game moved around him. If he ends up in the wrong position on the floor, he doesn't seem to know where to go or how to fix it.
I freely admit I was one that was clamoring for him to get more minutes, but I don't think that's possible until he knows where to be on the floor, what to do, and how to adapt when it all goes SNAFU.A real fan celebrates the successes, but also acknowledges the failures of his team.

DC is very soft and MSU was killing him around the basket. He has a soft touch for sure but lacks intensity ALL the time on the floor

All of the upside that Collins gives you on the offensive side, he completely gives it away...and then some... on the defensive end.He played a terrible, terrible game on the defensive side tonight...He is SOFT, SOFT, SOFT right now. He was getting completely manhandled on MSU's offensive boards tonight. Rebounding is all about blocking out, desire, and effort...and unfortunately Collins was 0-for-3 in those categories tonight. Singh had to be brought in for him just to show MSU that someone from BU was capable of putting a body on someone.
Hopefully this will be a learning experience for him...but he simply had to be taken off the floor tonight in the 2nd half...MSU might have had 75 offensive rebounds if Collins would have been in there for much of the second half...

What about TCS......he only played 2 minutes...1 asst and 1 to? He must of done something wrong to only play 2 minutes............I like WE and think he will be great before it's all said and done.....but another missed 3 makes him 0-11 this season....he needs to get in closer and score IMO! DC should have still gotten some more minutes in the 2nd half! You will not get any better sitting on the bench when 7',6'10 and 6'8 are on the court against your 6'7 and 6'5.......this is the reason for the O' rbs MS seemed to get at will!

I thought DR played the game we needed from him, JC was swarmed, AW did not play his part. I give up on him this year, he will need to mature a bit to become the player he is capable of becoming. I thought for a moment we could dictate the game but we were one player from doing it.
BTW the crowd was great from TV land. You guys rocked!!!!!"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

SS picked up three fouls in seven minutes and now has 17 fouls in 64 minutes this season. Keep that in mind, everyone who clamors for him to get more minutes.
he also played tougher D, had 3 rebounds,aand shot 5 ft's...in 7 minutes...
DC has a much bigger upside but you can't wait for him to play tougher during a game against MSU...maybe after watching from the bench the last 10 minutes he'll get it next game. I think if JL thought they would win the game with DC he would have been in there

I think SS came in when DC got out-muscled again on the defensive end and Mich St got an easy bucket.
Enter SS.
He played great!
And I think this was more of a tempo for him. Generally, Bradley plays too uptempo for SS to be effective and helpful... but in a slower game like this, it not only helped him, but he was able to help Bradley.
So I look for SS to get more playing time in slow games, like maybe against SIU... and maybe against UNI if they are looking for a 1/2 court game with Coleman.
Keep up the hard work SS!
