DODIE DUNSON: Greg McDermott gets committment for Iowa State
Stay up to date with all the College sports news, recruiting, transfers, and more at 247Sports.com
"Dunson, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound post-grad at Brewster Academy (N.H.), gave McDermott a verbal pledge while on a visit to the school this weekend.
``He felt very comfortable with Coach McDermott, Coach (Jeff) Rutter and the rest of the staff from when they were recruited him at Northern Iowa,???‚¬?? Brewster coach Jason Smith said."
"It did not take long for Dodie Dunson to make a decision about his future. After taking an official visit to Iowa State this weekend, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound point guard from Brewster Academy gave a commitment to the Cyclones. Dunson had originally planned to take two more official visits, but those visits have been canceled.
"I have given a verbal commitment to Iowa State," said Dunson. "I gave a commitment to Coach Greg McDermott during my official visit this weekend. I was going to take official visits to Minnesota and Tulsa, but those visits will no longer take place.
"My parents came with me during my visit and loved everything about Iowa State," he added. "We arrived late on Friday night and just returned earlier today."
It appears that the decision to attend Iowa State might have been easier than expected for Dunson. He is extremely familiar with the coaching staff, as Coach McDermott recruited Dunson while he was at Northern Iowa.
................
"My decision to attend Iowa State is final," he added. "I am going to sign my Letter-of-Intent next week. My parents and I are also going to sit down and start putting together my summer schedule. I plan to attend summer school at Iowa State."
DODIE DUNSON: Greg McDermott does what PM fails to do
How do you figure???
Actually, PM got Dodie to verbal, sign a LOI, and attend summer classes at Illinois State before Dodie decided he didn't like him anymore.
So far McDermott has only gotten the verbal. He has 2 other things he needs to do before Dodie suits up. We'll see if he does.
Dinma Odiakosa 6'8 255......The Nigerian Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 37 points and 27 boards in 2 wins over Bradley. "Will Egolf is 6'9 and he had 4 rebounds. That's not good enough and he's not good enough"....Dick Versace 2/9/10
Iowa state is pretty rich with guards, so this surprises me a little. I saw DD as a mid-major type and I think he'll struggle to get playing time in the Big 12, but McDermott has a way of taking under-recruited kids with midmajor talent and making them play good team ball. I am not sure how well it will work in the Big 12. This year, even with his entire team back from last year and picked 1st, but with the MVC much improved, he was only able to make 6th place.
This isn't hard to figure. McD just sold him on Iowa State. It's probably the best offer he'll get.
I don't doubt Dodie will enroll and play for McD next fall.
He has nowhere else to go this time.
He has cancelled his other visits, and this year he can't opt out an go to prep school.

Hey...as BU guards demonstrated to B12 Champs KU "mid-major" types can indeed compete with the BIG boys.
This is the 3rd or 4th time I have read something saying Dodie Dunson is McDermott's first recruit at Iowa State:
"Dunson, who is averaging 18.5 points per game at Brewster, becomes the Cyclones' first recruit under new head coach Greg McDermott."
