Looks like he still needs more school and it would have been a disaster for the Braves to have a player for next year not to come! We lucked out on this one.......thanks goes out to wainwright and to DePaul for cheating on the recruiting!

This is just breaking. As of last night, the DePaul message boards had nothing about this. Now it is being reported that he is planning to attend Winchedon Prep school. It's the same prep school that Cass' former teammate Justin Dentmon attended and used as a springboard to elevate his value from going to Illinois State to being pursued by many top majors and going to Washington.
There are also rumors of 2 or 3 of DePaul's young studs leaving. This could devastate them!
DePaul fans are thinking that Cass still wants to come to DePaul, but why would he go this route? If he was satisfied with DePaul and just neded more academic work, why not just stay at Boys to Men? I think he is looking to get better offers like Dentmon did.

This is really too bad for coach Wainwright, who just lost out on one of his 1st prized recruits in Cass. And the NCAA is still deciding the matter of the recruiting violation. Poor guy, JW, he just didn't know the NCAA rules. Doesn't seem right that they might still get some kind of penalty from the NCAA and now they won't even have Cass.

Wait a minute...
Manual Cass was a 2 year varsity player at Carbondale.
In his sophomore year, even though Carbondale made it all the way to state, Manual only averaged 1.9 points and under one rebound per game.
He only played a total of 5 mop-up minutes in blowouts in the state tourney as Carbondale took home the 4th place trophy.
In his junior year, he played well averaging 16 points, but in the close semifinal win over Downers South, and in the title game loss to Glenbrook North he all but disappeared, and was thoroughly outplayed by kids who are not getting any D-I looks.
Also, one of the knocks was that Carbondale really had a fairly easy schedule that year.
Then his senior year he gets into trouble with his coach, gets dismissed from the Carbondale team, and floats around a while before ending up at Boys to Men, where he was not really much of a factor.
Every article I read that actually gave game info said Koshwal, Brackings, Kelly, and a few others did all their scoring.
Now he is voluntarily choosing to repeat his 4th year of high school and spend a 5th year??
So just how good is Cass? Is he going to end up like Ricky Clemons? Lots of hype, lots of school changes, then no real production?
I guess time will tell.

I did sit and talk to a high school coach in the St. Louis area before the MVC semifinals (he was waiting for friends and didn't know it would be filled with BU supporters). His teams had played against Cass in the regular school season and in the summer. He thought with steady improvement that he would be a good college player. 6'8" kid with some moves and a good build. However, he wasn't surprised with what was happening off the court.
As was said earlier, BU did luck out that he didn't sign with the Braves back in the fall.1996 & 2019

Despite an expensive Private Prep School education the past year at Boys to Men Prep, it looks like Cass was unable to pass his tests and get qualified.
There are two things that stand out here:
--he played and remained eligible at Boys to Men, even though he was likley flunking out and couldn't get his academics up to snuff.
--he clearly does not want to spend another year at Boys to Men (Thijin Moses did it by "reclassifying" and getting a second senior year), and he's going to a different prep school that maybe finds more ingenious ways to get qualifying scores for its students?
"Chicago Sun-Times reports: Manual Cass, one of the leading members of DePaul's 2006 recruiting class will not be on campus in the fall. Cass, a 6-7 forward, has been reclassified as a "Class of 2007 recruit'' and will spend next season at The Winchendon School, a prep school in Massachusetts. ''The letter of intent is null and void because he is a non-qualifier,'' Roy Schmidt of Illinois Prep Bulls-Eye Report said. ''So, officially, his recruitment has been re-opened.'' However, according to Illinois Warriors club coach Larry Butler, Cass still intends to honor his commitment to DePaul."
