TJ Ford wouldn't have taken that circus shot with 1:30 left in a 1 point game coming out of a timeout.

I think you're being a little harsh BradleyBrave..... was that a bad shot - yes. Does Daniel do this all the time? No. Did he make a lot of very difficult shots to get BU back into the game - yes, absolutely.

He has had a great career, been a starting point guard on a Sweet 16 team, leads all current NCAA players in assists and exceeded most people's expectations for him. We are lucky to have him and I look forward to him continuing to have an excellent senior year.

I saw TJ Ford throw up several questionable shots while he played at the the University of Texas. Players aren't robots programmed to never make a bad judgement.

BB are you talking about the shot from the corner infront of the BU bench? Didnt that shot rim in and out?

Also, I'm not sure that shot wasn't the result of a broken play rather than a bad decision by Ruff. It was coming out of a timeout with nearly a full-shot clock, so I doubt Jim Les told him, Daniel slash and then just take take a crazy shot, OK!? For all we know it was slash and player X will rotate in behind you so you can dish. If in that situation player X fails to rotate for whatever reason, you end up with a potential crazy circus shot.

well put, thefish. i was just about to type the same thing. I suspect that somebody wasn't where he should have been... if it was just a trip down the court with no timeout, then maybe its a bad decision by DR, but I have to believe that Les drew up a play that broke down somehow.

I know you understand this but without Ruffin we would ****. Does DR do some things that frustrate us at times...sure he does but so does every player in the country. As someone said these guys are not robots.

A game NEVER comes down to the final possesion as far as saying "we lost because so and so missed the last shot".

For every ONE thing Ruf does "wrong" he does a DOZEN more "right" IMO. I can live with that ratio. He's the best PG in the Valley and one of the top PG's in the nation in the eyes of many.

What else can we ask of Danny.

My favorite player on the Braves this year (no disrespect to JC). The guy is the engine. If he was just a little taller, I think he would be a good NBA player. It's tough for short guards in the NBA...

No, I am talking about the fadeaway 15 footer from the wing that was blocked, coming right out of a timeout.

Am I being harsh? Maybe. But maybe my expectations of a 5th yr senior point guard are high. There's NO DOUBT Dan Ruffin was a primary reason we got back into that game. But, out of a timeout, don't you expect a better shot than that? I guess I have just seen Ruff do that type of thing in critical moments far too often. I have no problem with DR taking the shot. In fact, I think he would be my #1 option to shoot the ball. The kid has icewater in his veins when he shoots the ball, and I would have full confidence in him taking a squared up 3 in the waning moments. But, he would be the #1 option to shoot the ball off of a pass, not creating himself. He just doesn't do well in that situation.

Maybe I am being overly harsh on DR. Maybe Jim called the timeout and told him to create (if Jim wasted a timeout just to draw that up that would be another issue altogether). I tend to think that wasn't the case, as Jim has always been very strong at drawing up a play to get us a basket, even in his early years as coach. That possession just still burns me because that game was there for the taking, and I really think if we had taken the lead we would have won. It was THE at-large resume builder of this non-con, moreso than Michigan St, because it was away from Carver. Beating Butler in Indy may prove to have equal value, but I think when it's all said and done, Vandy will be one of the top teams in the country, and it will be looked at as a squandered opportunity to get that signature win away from home.

I'm not trying to hate on Ruffin. I love Ruff. I'm just still a little bitter about Saturday.

That first year non-qualifier deal is looking nice these days, the fifth year maturity is really showing.

And they all lived happily ever after......
