  • Coach Les Show --tonight (Monday 11/26) 6-7 pm on WMBD 1470

Has anyone asked some non-softball type questions on his show lately. Do they even tak calls? I admit I haven't listened in quite a while, but am tempted to call in and ask point blank why Matt Salley continues to start over Collins? Or at least ask why both can't play at the same time. I really wouldn't mind seeing all 3 big guys start(wilson) with crouch and Ruff....with Warren the 6th man, although my ideal starting lineup is Crouch, ruff, warren, wilson, and collins

Yes they take calls.I don't think anyone has asked any starting line up questions.

I'm with you fanatic, and I think the question should be asked. But, I don't think we should be as hung up on the 'starters' as much as we should be on the minutes. David Collins averaging 12 minutes or so a game is unacceptable to me. I would like to know why. I trust the staff and their decisions, so Jim should have a good answer for that one.

To your point though, DC starting could keep us from digging the proverbial hole that we've dug ourselves against UIC, Iowa to an extent, and Vanderbilt.

BB: You think DC only gets that many minutes due to stamina? I know 12 is really low...but bigger guys seem to get worn out quicker. Its the only thing I can find remotely logical.

There have been few calls into the shows, so far.

So I would encourage people to call in and ask these questions. Jim doesn't duck tough questions, and they won't refuse your question, even if it questions the coach's decisions.

For those out of town, the show can be heard over the net at www.1470wmbd.com , and at www.bubraves.com

Ask him what he thinks the stock market will be like in the coming year, my IRA is taking a beating.

It very well could be a reason. I think that there also may be some basketball/execution reasons, i.e. nuances of the offense and defense that he hasn't picked up yet that may limit his minutes. One item I do know of is the setting of a solid screen and then sealing off the defender while rolling to the basket. Sam Singh and Matt Salley both do a better job of that than DC right now. That being said, I don't think it's enough to limit his usually VERY productive minutes. As far as +/- ratios go, with DC in the game, the ratio is very much swayed towards the + side of things.

My guess is that DC maybe doesn't stay focused for too long in the game? I remember at the beginning of the season on one of these shows, Coach Les commented that some of the JUCO players didn't play intense for too long. At JUCO, they could coast, but of course, in D1 ball, that's a different story. I think he specifically called DC and Theron Wilson out on that.

It seems Theron has been able to make this adjustment, but maybe DC isn't doing it in practice enough for Coach to trust him with longer minutes. However, it'd be interesting for someone to specifically ask Coach Les this.

Any other "non-softball" questions we can think of to ask Coach?

Coach said stamina are reasons why DC's minutes are limited now.

I am not buying that he can play longer than 4 or 5 min at a time.

What in the hell is this guy talking about? Hahaha, he said he called Memphis and Louisville, it sounds like he was trying to setup games for Coach.

Just for the record... I (unfortunately) missed the show and I was NOT the caller (and I have no idea what went on, but I think I'd chuckle over more details).

Coach indicated the reason for the T at the beginning of the game was that he was out of the box at the baseline end. I don't ever remember seeing a coach getting a T for being out of the box on the baseline end. I certainly don't remember it a couple of minutes into the game when he was not throwing a fit. An amazingly terrible call. This just seemed to put us in a hole early.

This referee walked into the arena looking like he was mad at the world and was going to pick a fight with someone. Really bad.
