Just got back from the SPI trip.....had a GREAT time!!!

I think the point to be made here is that the intentional foul call took the outcome of the game out of the player's hands, and that's what the BU fans at the game were upset about (including myself). The same ref that called the "T" on JL also made the intentional foul call.....and both were unnecessary calls in my book.

The one good thing about the sparse crowd at the game is you could easily make your feelings known to the refs.....and they had to hear every comment being made.

As I saw it regarding the T on Les.

The official who gave him the T also warned him numerous times in the Iowa game about being out of the "box". Prior to the Vandy game, this official was telling Merfeld during warmups about Les being out of the box. When he got the T, Les was outside the box at the baseline chewing on this same ref. The ref warned him to get back in the box, Les ignored it and he got T'd.

Thanks, braves 12 your observation makes good sense as to why the T. I'm not defending the refs as I wasn't there to see what happened, but what your saying would validate the whistle for the T and ease our mind that we were not getting hosed. Also to the observer who wants the kids to decide the game, please don't take this wrong but they did. The kid decided to foul intentionally and the rule book says it must be called and the book doesn't specify what time in the game it should be called. If no foul we wouldn't have had a whistle so the kid did decide the game.

          Wily,

I use to officiate high school basketball years ago, so my opinion may be prejudiced. I think that from what I could see, the foul was intentional, but not anywhere near the level it seems to require to call an intentional foul these days. A very similar intentional foul ocurred earlier in the game by a Vandy player against BU. It was not called intentional. My feeling is that they both should have been called intentional or not intentional. I think most coaches, players and fans just want the game to be called consistently. Did this call cost BU the game? No, but it did affect the game but only slightly. The game has 40 minutes and many possesions. BU still could have won this game if they played better in the 1st half. And they still had chances to tie and take the lead late in the game but didn't. BU lost the game and the officials were not consistent...just my opinion. 1 more thing. I never like to see any officials work the same team 2 days in a row. Shouldn't happen in my opinion.

Good point and improved spelling.......That was my beef too. Earlier a very similar foul was NOT called intentional. IMO the ref has to remember that and call it the same later. THEY set the "standard" of what intentional is/was.

Its like vcalling fouls dow low. Are they going to call them tight or loose...either way you adjust to HOW the game is called and HOPE they remain consistent. Had he called an intentional earlier...OK.....but you can't have to glaring differences in how a call is made/enforced.

Again this ONE call just like Ruffins last play and a few other late misses DIDN'T cost us the game. Getting down 20+ early cost us this game...PERIOD.

              dogs,

Were those spelling mistakes really me, or were they you logged onto my computer. Only you and I will know for sure. Whomever it was, we can both blame it on the "sodas" at the Irish establishment. Have you gotten any emails from your new buddy Wango?
