  • Basketball Band Music Suggestions

I have noticed that some people have disliked some of the Basketball Band music since it doesn't really cheer the crowd up. So, I would like to know your suggestions. You can look for marching/pep band music on these websites, among others.

we have somewhere around 150 "basketball" songs that most colleges use around the nation. as far as trying out new songs, we are trying to put in a new one every game... but it will be impossible to please everyone fyi. most of the time when we are ready to play a song that would get/keep the crowd going, we have to wait until after the announcements are over... causing the crowd to lose interest

we've already had another thread talking about the "schedule" that has to be followed each game and there is nothing we can do about it

I doubt this is possible or how it would sound at a basketball game. But my friend and I were talking it would be cool if they played the Flight of the Valkyrie when BU comes out in the second half.

If anyone has ever seen the movie Apocalypse Now, you know what I mean.

When will the new CD be out?
        Can we start winning soon?

Just a quirky idea... How about playing the main part of Beethoven's Fifth when an opposing player fouls out of the game? You could draw out the notes for a more dramatic effect......

I think the band is fantastic and I love their current set list. My favorite song is 'Swing March', followed by 'Imperial March' and 'Charge On'. I think people who are criticizing the cheerleaders and band really don't know what they're talking about, and haven't seen other schools' cheerleaders and bands. BU's cheerleaders and band are as good as anyone's.

My ONLY criticism of the band is that there's no new band CD out. I thought for sure there would be one after the Sweet 16 year, capitalizing on all of the BU hype, and splicing in audio clips from that sweet ride. But, alas, here we are 2 years later still waiting for a new basketball band CD. The band missed out on a lot of revenue that could have been generated by a CD on the heels of that run, but I still think there is high demand for a CD of the band's songs (including 'Swing March', which isn't on the CD that came out a decade ago).

On a side note - If anyone has 'Swing March' on MP3, I would love to get a copy.

My only complaint with the band is that when the Braves are on a roll and the opponent has to call a time out they should ALWAYS play the fight song. Are you telling me that it is scheduled when you can play the fight song? I totally agree with you about having to wait for the PA announcement, which is usually worthless information. The goofy promotions don't help either. FYI, I have been to arenas all over the country and have heard other team's fight song played over and over and even the old folk stay wrapped up in the game.

I agree 100% ....I have never understood why we can only play the fight song at the 4 minute timeouts.... opposing teams should hate hearing that song played....when we have the opponents on the ropes PLAY THE FIGHT SONG! ...the people at the cleaners and the Para-dice will understand, or just have to deal with it.

Other than that I think the band does an outstanding job...keep up the good work!

I wish it were easier than that... they can't just "deal with it"... we HAVE to follow the schedule given to us! here is what would happen if we have the opposing team on the ropes say, oh 4 or 5 times throughout the game, I guarantee that people will be complaining that the fight song was played too many times (even though it is our fightsong) and wanting us to play different songs here and there... it will never end. There is always somebody wanting something different each time we play a piece.

I don't know if you realize it or not, but this year, I don't think they have played any recorded music! We are playing more than we ever have over the past few years! Instead of continuously arguing over what song should be played where and blah blah blah, just enjoy it!

Just have a question here not a complaint. Is the schedule you are given so rigid as to not allow the band to play the fight song during a key point of the game? PM me if you want and if you are afraid that this thread will deteriorate by answering this question. Everyone in the band does a great job. Keep up the good work.

with the schedule, we try to get the cheerleaders and dance team involved w/ each song that we do. now I'm not Dr. Vroman, but he talks w/ the cheerleading coach to keep eachother on the same page. When we are told what song we will be playing, it usually comes right after we finish the previous song, or at the previous timeout. It would be great to be able to just switch songs at the last minute, don't get me wrong, but the fact is, that some of the band members are not able to switch quick enough to the new song therefore causing the new song to not sound together... if that makes any sense? One thing that we've been trying to do is keep putting in the "Bulls" song when we are on a run! I personally think that that song is better to play in those situations than the fight song... solely because it keeps going after we are done playing (everyone singing it) and from what I've seen, the entire crowd gets into it! but again, with the schedule, we are trying to put in as many different songs as possible with the time we are given. hope that helped and we will do our best to please everybody.

Thanks for your input bradley09... I used to be in band (not at BU) so the last minute switching with everyone not being able to be together makes a lot of sense. If I had to guess, I would think that it is difficult to get everyone together for the practice necessary to implement new songs on a regular basis. The band sounds great this year. Keep up the good work.

I also have a question. Also I've been to every game, and have not paid attention to it before to answer this myself. Are the promotions scheduled the same each game, for example is the first official's timeout at the 16:00 minute mark taken every game vs the 4:00 minute mark official's timeout may be open. How does this work? Also, what happens during unplanned timeouts. In my opinion, and maybe it is this way, the band should have free reign during unplanned timeouts, especially if it's called by the visiting team trying to regroup.

I don't have any complaints about the band, they do a great job and sound very good. I do think that they aren't given enough freedom to keep the momentum going. For example, the B-R-A-D-LEY is a momentum KILLER. Why not break into the timeout with the fight song, keep everybody going and standing, then do the cheer with the drum beat in the background.
