Carver Arena Wet Spots

BU ICEMAN

First of all: get your mind out of the gutter.

Seriously though, it's been what, 25 or so years since BU moved into the Civic Center and they still have problems with keeping the floor from randomly developing wet spots? I understand the whole science reason for why it happens, but c'mon, you mean to tell me that somebody/some company has not developed something in which you can insulate the ice sheet from the floor to prevent this? Unreal.

I do not get it. The Rivermen play again at home on Friday. Why is there even ice below the basketball court when the ice is not needed again until Friday?

It looked really bad from the computer ... kudos to the refs though for taking the necessary stoppages in play to prevent anyone from getting hurt.

Wow-I couldn't imagine how hard it would be to melt and drain the rink every time there was a basketball game and then remake the rink... Wow wow wow.

My name is Johnny and I like to eat apples!

I hope your helmet was on when you wrote that.

Whoa, Triman. That seemed totally out of line. Cool it.

Yes, but it's unrealistic to expect the Civic Center to melt and drain the ice for every basketball game. That same ice stays for the entire season (October to May), save some special event like the circus coming to town.

I understand something should be done about it. And Bradley should be very firm in demanding it get fixed, but we also know this is a problem and Bradley is willing to send its players on the floor knowing it's an issue.

I'm not sure why we need a thread on it every freakin' time.

The way things are going at the Civic Center, maybe the folks there can get a corporate sponsorship for the Carver Arena Wet Spots!

I have said this before that the civic center needs to look at what the Scotttrade center does to keep the floor from getting wet as they have ice under their floor and the temps. are warmer during the valley tour. but they do not have these problems.

I sit in section 10 on the isle. The new entrance from the ticket office area is directly behind me. I could feel the humid air rushing in that entrance. It is wide open the entire game and I would guess the temperature in our area rose 15 degrees from tip off to midway through the 2nd half. What ever problems they used to have are certainly not helped by the new entrance.

I've read some of the funniest things on the internet on this board. I hope people can take a joke on a heading that says "wet spots" lol.

There's no reason for this to be a problem-they've been having the same problem for a LONG time. It should have been fixed during the last renovation.

I thought TRIMAN's post was funny. But, I think the only person that needs the helmet is the kid that did the lap to start the wave on Sunday. I think he needs a helmet.

That reminds me ... I was glad there weren't any "This is Bradley" cheers coming out of the student section tonight. Let's keep it that way.

One thing the Civic Center could try is to crank the AC up and lower the temps by 10 degrees as well as installing some sort of dehumidifier system. They could also try putting down an insulation pad between the floor and the ice to keep the cool air from rising to the surface. It doesn't take rocket science.

I don't think they can do the pad. You wanna talk about soft spots in the floor, and trying to keep it from flexing etc... and even with the a/c it would have to run before the game and have it pretty cool to begin with. It's not incredibly easy to cool a room that large.

The past few years when it has been warm outside, it's been very cold when you walk into the Arena. It wasn't that way Tuesday. A couple people around me even mentioned it. If the renovations changed the way some of the air flows, the PCC is going to need to make some adjustments.
