Les stares....

Anyone notice JL in the second half especially.....he didn't seem to happy. Didn't appear to do alot of coaching and in the times I saw him didn't say much to guys as they subbed out. I don't think he was real happy with our sloppy careless play.

Maybe I'm off on this observation but I'd be interested to hear what he has to say in the paper tommorrow.

And in ANOTHER classic stare.....anyone recall the infamous Kevin Stallings 60 second staredown of an official in St louis during the tournament. He calls a TO then never moved from the sidelines to his teams huddle. He spent the entire TO stareing at some ref he was very upset with. It was classic...the Video guys caught it and had his big head plastered on the screen during the TO.

JL pulled a "mini" Stallings with one ref tonite when he called a bogus charge on JC as the defender came from the side and ran smack dab into him. It was right in front of JL and he weren't to happy. He spent about 30 seconds just glaring at the guy. To the refs credit he didn't respond or "engage" JL.

My seats is the end cap near Bradleys team bench about 5 rows up so I have a clear close up view of Les the whole game. He clearly wasn't happy with the turnovers. Near the end of the first half he looked like he was going to blow an engine with the turnovers. For the 2nd half, I kept looking over at Les after a few turnovers and he would just be staring and it was one of those stares that a coach gets before letting loose in the locker room. One of those, I can't wait to explode on these guys. I imagine it will be a key concept in practice tomorrow as Les probably thought it wouldn't do any good to bark at them during the game with us up by 25 points. Les has consistently had a low turnover prone team so I have confidence they will overcome this.

Thanks for your observation. I'm behind him so I wasn't sure what his "mood" or demeanor was. I agree.....during the game there isn't much you can do. I'm not sure HOW he cleans this up though. Like I stated a shorter bench wil automatically help but can you teach a guy like Collins Not to throw the ball away. I hate to keep harping but we are not a good enough team right now to play that careless. Maybe we aren't real good because we ARE so careless.....

When the team has 24 turnovers and the other team shoots 39 freethrows, I would hope Les would be pi$$ed. That team was awful, and extremly poorly coached. There is no reason that BU should have gotten outplayed in the 2nd half regardless of who was in the game. I think Les realized that the staff has a lot of work to do before the conference starts. BU did not play very smart basketball in the 2nd half. Did not value the basketball, and defense was pathetic. Yes, it was mostly the new guys, but they still should have outplayed that team, especially at home.

At times it can be very difficult for a team to maintain concentration with a big lead. I think and hope that is the case today. Most of the mistakes (turnovers) that I saw today can be corrected once the staff reviews the game film with the team.

Also again, most of DC's turnovers were after a defensive rebound and for some reason he would just lob the ball to a teammate thinking a defender wouldn't be there. I know he did that at least 3 or 4 times. Maybe he gets in a hurry with Bradley being an up tempo team and wants to get the ball out of his hands after a rebound as quick as possible. I think if Les just tells him to slow down and observe the court for a couple seconds then he'll be fine. Other than that, I thought the offense was outstanding. The fouls were misleading, refs were calling quite a few ticky tack fouls down low which is where MD-ES spent most of there possessions cuz they shoot worse than my dog LOL.

I am sure that can be cleaned up. Most of those turnovers were because the UMES players were quick and athletic enough to jump back into the line of the outlet passes thrown by Collins and others.

When Jim Les holds team scrimmages in practice, they actually teach the big men to rebound and throw the outlet pases in one quick motion to get the fast break going. I don't think the Bradley guys cheat on defense and go after that pass, so the big men get comfortable just turning and throwing.
Now I would expect them to put more time in adjusting to such a defensive move.

Thats what scares me...if THESE guys were quick what happens against VCU, MSU and the Valley teams.

I think that a longer bench will be an asset to us later in the season. College hoops is a guard oriented game, but depth in the frontcourt is what gets a team deep into tournaments. Sooner or later RA needs to step up to the plate. I am hoping that it is sooner as RA appears to have taken a step albeit a small one yesterday.

The best is when he chucks down his water bottle all over the floor or when he kicks the scores table. Personally I'd like to see him get T'd up more when the refs are absolutely horrible.

I've actually been quite surprised at Les's lack of going off on the refs this season. Last year he seemed to be racking up a T every game but I believe tonights game was the most emotion hes showed to a ref. It was after Crouch or someone was elbowed going for the rebound. Maybe Les is saving it for the big games on record.
