  • NBA scouting BU players

Dave Reynolds had this little piece at the end of his article today--
Braves briefs: Cleveland Cavaliers scout Wes Wilcox was in town Friday to check out BU senior guards Daniel Ruffin and Jeremy Crouch during practice. ...

But this is not the first NBA scout to check out Bradley.
An NBA scout sat next to my seats at the Iowa State game.

These NBA scouts get their credentials from Bradley, because he had a Bradley pass on a lanyard around his neck that allowed him access o the press room. But Bradley must stay pretty quiet about which scouts are there and when they are coming, since the media rarely seems to report on them.
2 seasons ago there were scouts at every home game sitting in the seats next to mine. They were there to watch Cellus and POB.
Last year they were at only a couple games.

In comparisons, Ruffin kind of reminds me of a Sam Cassell type player. Short and scrappy that can shoot the ball fairly well. At the pace the Bulls are going, they may need another PG if Kirk and gang can't get er going. As for Crouch, he definitely resembles Kyle Korver type. Not much on the defensive end but lights out on the 3's and scoring. I think they both have a chance if they continue to play well this season.

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but I don't see Ruffin or Crouch as NBA players.

Ruffin is WAY too small to play in the NBA. He has enough problems with big physical college guards....................He'll have NO shot against NBA caliber guards (though I think he'll have a fine overseas career)

Crouch also cannot defend NBA-caliber guards - he's WAY too slow and the NBA doesn't allow zone. He, too, will make money overseas for a few years.

Just my humble opinion.....hope I'm wrong

I think you are probably right. Both will be able to play professionally somewhere, but the NBA is a longshot. Crouch is a similar player to Korver, but Korver developed the ability to make shots while on the move, and Jeremy hasn't perfected that, yet. But if given a chance, maybe JC could end up in the NBA someday. Ruffin is probably too small for NBA teams to give a chance to. But if Troy Hudson can make it, there is a chance. Ruffin is a better ballhandler and passer than Hudson.

          I wouldn't call Cassell short. He's about 6'3-6'4"

Jeremy wants to be a college coach. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the end of the BU bench next year.

JC is a very good college player but the NBA being what it is very few good college players make to the NBA. The good ones that make it are like POB 7' tall and potential. JC is to slow and not strong enough to make it. He could mature into a player but I like BradleyBrave's input. DR could make the NBA but only coming off the bench as aprk plug like player. The Memphis game in the NCAA game showed him what it will take to make it. The MSU guards were just as quick but 6" taller and 30 lbs bigger.

I've never been a good judge of who will succeed in the NBA, so do you guys think DRuff and JC have much of a chance? I don't really, but like I said I'm usually wrong on these assumptions...

B4L; i don't disagree with your post, but i just wanted to point out that the NBA does now allow the zone defense. I believe it was 2 years ago that they got rid of the "illegal defense" rule.

Shows how many games I now watch in the post-Jordan/Hawkins years
