There were no games last night involving MVC teams.........
Northwestern hosted a Top 20 opponent, Stanford......
Wouldn't you think they'd draw some fans??
Nope...the attendance was announced at 3854, but reports are that half the seats were empty, and they were still counting those unoccupied by the season ticket holders.
Northwestern lost 71-60, their best player, Kevin Coble is on a leave of absence.
The Big Ten went 2-2 last night, with losses to Stanford and Gergetown, but the two wins were over
Bethune-Cookman and Savannah State. Sorry guys, you didn't help your RPI that much!
Believe it or not......though the season is early, the Big Ten is now 15-2 after their first two losses,
but they rank in the BOTTOM HALF of the 31 different D-I conferences in conference RPI because of how ridiculously weak they have scheduled so far. (and that doesn't count the loss by Michigan State to Grand Valley State!)
Derrick Rose had 17 pts, 3 assists, 4 turnovers, as Memphis struggled to put away Oklahoma, but won by 10, 63-53.
Rose was 4-12 from the field and 1-3 from 3-pt range. Only 7000 people showed up in the Madison Square Garden, much to the dismay of the Coaches Vs. Cancer Classic Tournament organizers.
Memphis would have drawn over 20,000 had the game been held there!!
Gary Williams' Maryland Terrapins needed overtime on their own home court to put away Northeastern, 74-72.
Ex-New Mexico Lobo, Bombale Osby had 16 pts, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks, but was 1-9 from the floor for Md.
Martland needed to go virtually the entire way with the starters, as Gary Williams got only a few minutes and 6 pts-4 rebs from his bench.
