  • SIU-E - Lennox Forrester

Lennox Forrester, now head coach at SIU-Edwardsville, got his first win last night with a 90-61 win over Harris-Stowe College of St. Louis. It was such a blowout, none of their starters played more than 23 minutes.

Saihou Jassey played 16 minutes off the bench and had 7 points on 3-7 shooting and 1-1 from 3-point, and he had 1 rebound and 2 assists.

SIUE also has a few other players with some familiarity...

Edmonn Maul was a teammate of Andrew Warren's at Brebeuf in Indianapolis.
He redshirted lastyear but was a 2006 grad just like Andrew.

Stephen Jones is a transfer from UNI

TJ Gray is a transfer from UIC

Terrence Williams, a 7-footer from Edwardsville, got some recruiting looks from BU at one time.
Williams did not play in last night's game, raising the possibility he may be a redshirt candidate.

SIU-E won again last night to go 4-3, and even thought the game was a blowout, 76-53,
Saihou Jassey still only logged 9 deep-bench minutes.

Of interest is the attendance....they drew nearly 500.....more than either of ISU's last two road opponents drew!

They should be pretty good next year with Leonard Parker (averaging 10 assists and 6 rebounds) and Chattanooga transfer Brandon Dunson in the backcourt. Also, I've heard they've got a talented, young frontcourt and are going to getting one or two strong mid major level recruits. I'm pretty sure that we'll be playing them next season as Forrester and Jim were very good friends while coaching together. Not saying that they will be anywhere near as talented as us but they should do good for a transitioning team.

Has anyone heard what conference SIU-E will be transitioning into? Will it be Summit or OVC?

Or even booting out E'Ville and into the MVC?

I'm surprised he made that many. I mean I like Sahiou, but he's not a D-1 basketball player. It would be interesting to see/know what the coaches saw in him. I mean he must have been at least decent in high school to get to BU, I know not every recruit will work out like Will or Zach did, but the only thing Sahiou can do on the basketball court is jump.

I do not think they have made any official announcement regarding their conference affiliation but I would probably lean towards the OVC, the baseball schedule for 2009 is here http://www.siue.edu/ATHLETIC/BB/2009/sked.html and it is full of OVC schools.

I would not do anything in a regular season with them until they are full fledged D1 and certainly would not play in their gym until that time if ever.

The interesting thing about Saihou is that he never played high school basketball, just AAU. He competed on a team in Kentucky where he averaged 25 pts and 10 rebounds though his teammates weren't very good.

I've heard both the OVC and Horizon depending on when they want to join.

I wouldn't play in their gym until they get a new one. There are high schools with better gyms than at SIU-E.

SIUE plays in the Vadalabene Center, which looks like a high school gym. Even their PR photos show nothing but bleacher seating. They could really use an upgrade.

I went to SIUE and think Pekin without the second level, it has an endzone of seats but not like those at Pekin but is open at the other end just like Pekin.

The Vadalabene Center is multi purpose and houses the athletic fitness center. The first 5 or so rows are chair backs. There is one concession stand.

It is nicer then Eastern and Western but that I suppose doesnt really say much. In a way I suppose it is very similar to Loyola.

I believe they are planning a huge upgrade to the gym, including new bleachers but its a glorified High School gym.
