Yes...the odds of any one die coming up with the letter is 1 in 6, so the odds of all six is one in 6x6x6x6x6x6 (6 to the 6th power) or one in 46,656 as you have stated.
But then these are actually better than the odds of winning some state's lotteries, but it sure doesn't prevent people from throwing away their money and their kids' college tuition trying!
you guys can figure all you want....I would just say they are bad odds
The Para-dice Bradley promotion with 6 people rolling dice to spell Bradley is really bogus. For those not at the game, 6 people each have one die with one letter of the name Bradley and the other 5 sides blank. All 6 people roll the dice at the same time to try to spell Bradley. If they do, everyone wins $10,000. Well, I just calculated the odds of winning:
2.143 per 100,000 or 1 in 46,663.56
At an average of 15 home games per year there will be one winner every 3,119.9 years. Thanks so much for your generosity! I hope they are paying dearly for the advertisement!
I thought Bradley had 7 letters in it? Are there 7 dies, or does it spell Braves? I was not at the game.
Hopefully someone wins and Paradice has to pay up!!
Sure glad all the do-gooders have no vices, but concerning the promotions, every one we have is a crowd quieter. What would happen if Bradley was down by 10 against Michigan St and the Braves scored 11 straight points and Tom Izzo called time out and the crowd was going wild. If the layup, free throw, run up and get a pizza and deliver it to the court promotion was scheduled, would the kid win a pizza or would the crowd be able to continue.

Very good point Chico... and I guess this is why I don't like scheduled activities during time-outs.
But not sure I follow the 'do-gooders' comment. You know... he who lives without sin casts the first stone (and maybe that was what you were directing to). But just in case.... I don't live without sin.
It is Braves and I agree that the Paradice is not really risking anything as it is pretty much impossible to win playing that game; a person would have more of a chance to sink a full court shot .
MMob, just being sarcastic I guess, because I do go to the boat once in a while and I like a cold beer, or two. But I wish someone in the promotions department could answer my question. It's not as dumb as their promotions.
Thanks Mike. I was just doing this the old stats way... the way I teach it in stats class. 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6 x 1/6. It is easier for students to see and inderstand and I am in the practice of doing it that way. The only problem with my way is rounding, but in this case it really does not matter because the rounding error is soooooo small.
Even that George would come out to be even.... Now about those Americans that don't understand math... And he's right BRADLEY has 7 letters, the dice spell out BRAVES, so lets talk about those who don't understand math AND comprehension... once again
I should add that not even all the mega buck winners are happy. There has been a number of documented accounts of some winners being broke within just a few years.
Indeed.....and not just broke, but in debt over their heads and having their families in ruins.....
There are a lot of people who money and fame do not suit well......you could start with Britney Spears.
It is BRAVES...not Bradley...but no matter, the odds are still stacked against you. I would love to see the Paradice have to pay out that money.
The Paradice wont have to pay out too much money if by some stroke of fate the dice rolls ended up with everyone a winner. I would think that the Paradice took out an insurancance policy to cover themselves.
Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
