  • BU at UIC Game Thread

BU comes back from being down 15 and halftime score is 34-29
BU started cold, missing their first 8 3-point shots, and there were a lot of weird calls, especially the one where UIC turned the ball over after a timeout, and then the refs reversed the turnover and gave it back to UIC.

Also one of DRuff's 3-point attempts from 2 feet past the arc still needed to be reviewed as if the refs don't have a clue.

Ouch....all I can say is congrats to UIC for agame where everything they threw up there went in and the refs did their part with the worst officiated game I think most have seen in a while.
BU needs to review game tape and find ways to avoid getting called for just about every violation a ref can think of.

Thank goodness Bradley decided to not broadcast on bubraves.com the exhibition games or the red-white scrimmage, otherwise the loss margin to UIC might have been even larger. You wouldn't want us Brave supporters to give away any secrets to the enemy.

Clearly I'm being sarcastic. Did we out-think ourselves on this one ... or maybe UIC is the better team.

        An embarassing RPI/bad loss killer

That was an embarassing RPI/bad loss killer. No real offensive rythm unless we were looking inside. Tried to be up-tempo at times, but out of control and too quick of shots. Too many turnovers. Ruff had 7--bad. Ruff 5-15, 1-10 3's. Sam M. is a freshman that should not be playing the minutes he does--turns it over with bad, very bad shot selection (way quick, and buddy, you are a frosh). However, I am not sure if an alternative is there at this point. Ruffin took too many quick shots, though, too. Real bad Team defense was the main key to the defeat I think, though. Officiating hurt--what the heck is up with Skyles? What was up with Wilson fouling out--quick whistles. Singh, Ruffin, Salley, Wilson, Crouch the five best players so far. Salley has not picked up where he left off last year defensively. Sam has the effort, but we need better defense besides Ruff and Jeremy.

Coach Stowell, the eternal optimist, thinks we'll be good and do better at home next week. I sure hope so. The non-conference portion of the schedule is going to be rough, so I hope we do not get hammered. Fortunately, I think the conference is weaker this year, so it may get better down the stretch. And, as the season progresses, I sure hope I look back on this post and think, "Boy they sure improved and I really regret that negative sounding post."

I didn't watch the whole game but it seemed fairly consistent throughout. I couldn't believe the carry calls..that is certainly going to take some geting use to

really the worst officiated game i've seen possibly ever.

i've never seen a more textbook perfect pick than the one singh got called on a moving-screen in the 2nd half. really an awful call.

              wilson's charge? are you kidding?

it's easy to blame the refs... but they were really terrible tonight.

sam maniscalco is to defense what danny adams is to defense. deceivingly slow. don't let the active arms fool you. maybe if we didn't get beat off the dribble every play we wouldnt have to help and leave someone wide open for the 3.

              more TCS, less warren/samM

              Singh was a ton tonight.

I don't know how Coach didn't get at least 2 technicals and a 3rd on the way out.

Devastating start to the season. One game in and we're already "off the bubble."

Well, I had a feeling we would go through some growing pains with all of the new players. And I think this might be the first of a few games to look like this.

I caught the last part of the game on the UIC radio station and was not aware of all of the calls that were going UIC's way. But it sounds like Snell and Stowell are saying that the defense needs to be addressed as Bradley has given up 80 or more points in their three games this year. I just hope we could get a few non-conference road wins, because there is no easy game on that part of the schedule, and UIC would have been one of our best chances. Well, you live and learn.

Things could be worse though. The Bulls are losing 92-58 with 5 minutes to go to Anthony Parker and the Toronto Raptors, at home! What the heck going on with that team?!

We don't have a J.J. Taui yet this year, who can help shut down a player like Mayo. This one was pretty rough to watch. Very disappointing start. Hopefully, this was our Tennessee Tech for the year.

i'm pretty sure ruffin didnt even put a hand in mayo's face on that last dagger 3 - though ChuckB claimed it was good defense...

We were bad, no doubt. But I just got off the phone with a friend who was at the game and he said that the courtside consensus was that we were hosed by Helmet Head (worthless valley off) and the other officials.

                          BU web video

My web video feed was horrible--started and stopped, hung, and it had the quality of an old UHF signal when I did get it. How was others'? I'm in St. Louis, so this is my "life-blood" for most of the season, so I hope it gets better

This is not an RPI killer. Every good team has a bad loss or two, and I have a feeling UIC might be better than a lot of the experts expect. It is a big emotional boost when a coach comes back from a leave of absence like Jimmy Collins did, so this may propel them to good things this year.

Keep your head up. It's a long season!

Good coming out game by SS tonight.......MS took ZA's roll fouling out and only playing 5 minutes in the 1st half.......DR should not have to play the whole game, if he does his passes and shots get weak! But DR did have 14 assts tonight.....could have been 20 if someone would have hit a 3! DC looked pretty good to me tonight though....he will only get better!
