What are everyone's thoughts on the player introductions yesterday?

It was obviously different than last year. I hope by the first real home game they have things as they were last season. I thought that last years pregame was awesome and really gave me goose bumps, especially for the big games when the students and crowd got into it.

    Hopefully the changes aren't permanent.

I thought it would be the same as last year as they were testing the smoke machine at the top of the student section aisle before the intros. Why test it if you're not going to use it?

I am pretty positive they will be very similar to last years (including the smoke)...

If you noticed the lights went out and the team came throught he student section at a different time than last season, as they returned to the court from the locker room. The players were then introduced in a more traditional fashion similar to the opposing team. I also didn't think the video presention had as much style and "punch" as last year.

My hope is that they didn't want to unviel the new video until the first home game. So they did things differently.

FWIW Snell's radio comment about the shorter intro made it sound that last year's intro was way too long so this shorter intro is what they will be using...

Perhaps the Valley complained last year?

I do like a former player making a comment on the screen before the game, but IMO last year's intro was way too long. It was more like an NBA introduction.

Last year's intro was way over the top and made me fell embarrassed for the university. These are just BB players not some type of god we are introducing!

                GTD,

I can certainly understand your feelings. I just thought that all the historical photos along with some of the sweet 16 stuff was great. I was sharp and very well produced. Maybe they will do something similar, just a little shorter and then then the lineup. The sight of each starting player slapping hands with all those little kids under the spot light is just priceless, IMO.

Last year's video, introductions, and entrance was awesome, but I agree it was a little too long....almost to a point of embarrassment but not quite. As far as the video depicting them as "gods", I have no problem with that. They are supposed to be thinking of themselves as warriors as they're about to go do battle.

What I'd like to see is a highlight video that at the beginning shows some old classic hilights and then some from the current team, showing a continuation of the tradition of thrilling moments. I also liked the part of last year's video that summarized our tournamant successes and MVC successes.

The video and introductions have added to my excitement over the past few seasons, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it is refined as time goes on. When you make changes, you have to mix tradition and familiarity with new and different. That is true whether you're a cheerleader, the band, video guy, or whatever.

Why can't the old footage be playing during the warmups?

When the other team leaves the court after being introduced, it's a pretty good indication that the intro is too long.

                      DD -

I wanted to post the exact same thing, you beat me to the punch. I hope we aren't cutting out the montage...we need to keep the history and tradition of BU hoops as an integral part of the game experience. I'm indifferent on running out through the crowd, but the montage definitely needs to be a part of the production. Some may have thought last year's intros were a little too long, but I think they were great. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

On a side note relating to the 'presentation' of Bradley basketball - I LOVE the new uniforms. The new font and shadow of the names and numbers looks very sharp. I actually like the new floor too, but I wish they would get rid of that 2nd line. It's useless until next season.

I though the floor looked good too, bright and clean. I have been in a lot of gyms and I could smell the new finish on the floor. I am just luke warm on the "generic" font of the "Bradley" in the center and the "Braves" on the ends. I think that Bradley on an angle in an "old script" would look sharper and more traditional.

I brought some friend to the ISU game last year and I can remember during the video and intros one of them saying "WOW!" And this is from a guy who had been to a lot of sporting events. I had loved it all season and his comment was enought for me.

The intros don't do much for me, but when I see how excited some of the kids are as they come running back into the stands telling everyone they shook hands with Jeremy Crouch or Daniel Ruffin, I think it's worth it. Bradley needs to continue to do things like that to develop memories in those kids that will make them want to continue coming to games, and following Bradley into their adult years.

I guess I'm old fashioned, but I like the turning down of the lights, the band and cheerleaders making noise before the introduction of the home team and you can skip all the vidio. The slapping hands with the kids is the greatest thing I've seen, after all, these guys are their hero's.

I agree re: the slapping hands thing Chico. I may have missed it but I don't think the guys went around the outside of the court and high-fived the kids surrounding the court, and I'm sure some of the youngsters came away a bit disappointed yesterday that they didn't get to high five the starters.

I agree that the video was a little on the long side, and that's apparent from the fact that the opposing team would go back in the locker room before it came on. I think it really pumped up the student section, but the intro that's in place for this season will more then make up for the full highlight video.
