  • BU New Players

Just one guy's observations on BU's new players:

TC-S.....WOW!!! Can't expect him to shoot "lights out" every game, but he obviously showed he can be counted upon to score, defend and distribute.

Collins.....silly, reaching fouls but sets good screens, blocked a few shots and altered a couple more. Don't think he can be counted upon for big stats game in and game out, but see him more as a contributor on defense than offense.

Wilson.....good on-the-ball defender and rebounder, but cannot shoot from outside. Was part of the "quick" or "speed" team with DR, TC-S, SM and AT.

Maniscalco.....tenacious defender on the ball and good help-side defender. Took a couple of charges in the paint. Didn't look to shoot the ball very much.

Egolf.....looked lost on defense in the first half and took some ill-advised long jumpers. In the second half, he made a few steals and let his defense generate some offense.

Austin.....not sure what to say here. Didn't do much at either end, but did make a jumper and got a few defensive boards. I think I was expecting more from him inside.

Thompson.....surprised me with his overall play tonight. Made a few inside moves and can run the floor like a gazelle. Didn't look like a redshirt candidate to me, although he obviously needs to get stronger!

I think that Collins can be "coached up" to improve his play. I say this as I remember Matt Salley's progression from start to finish last year.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Speaking of MS, I'm really excited to see what he can bring to the table for us this year! Also, I like the looks of how deep our bench will be this year!
