  • The forgotten player?

Could Saihou Jassey be the next Boogie..........he seems to be forgotten is what will be returning next year? From what I hear he is an gifted athlete and has all the tools to help replace the void left by Boogie! It might take a couple of years to get to that level but he already has the body if he really puts in the effort it takes to compete at the D1 level! With another year to get into the weight room and another year of coaching I believe he will be a big asset to the team! Any thoughts?
Remember next year he will only be a redshirt freshman!

It will be good to finally see him play so we can see what we have. Will we see him in the Hawk summer leagues or have to wait until the Red and White which CAN'T come soon enough for me ......

Boogie reminds me of PAST Juco's that really came into their own late.

Pollard, Funches (Juco?), Rabey...all played some of their best ball late in their BU careers.

Boogie, to me, was one of the single biggest reasons we made the late run. The kid was incredible and was on par with those Memphis athletes the final game.

I think the kid could possibly make $$$ in this game.

Oh yeah Jassey....hope he works hard and was inspired by what CAN be.

I would be happy if Saihou could be anywhere near as good as Boogie next yeam. I think his game will be more like Zach Andrews. Saihou's shooting skills don't appear to be a good as Boogie's yet. But he has such athletic ability that he could get time every game playing the same type of game as Zach. I just don't see that we would want both in the game too much of the time because it could be an offensive liability. I think with his athleticism, he will be a heck of a defensive player.
From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

I have no idea what Saihou will do at BU over his career let alone next year. In watching him shoot around in Michigan and California, he does look like quite an athlete. His shot from 15' didn't look to bad. I think if he is as athletic as people say, he may become another Boogie or better before he leaves. He will only be a freshman next year that will be coming off of surgery. He probably needs time to grow. I hope fans are patient.

Saihou is a guard so he won't be inside getting put backs. His shot has to be pretty good or he is in for a long year because we all know he has trouble playing defense right now.

            bu fan 9,

You may be correct, but the Bradley website roster has him listed as a forward. It has him at 6-6 200 lbs. compared to Boogie's 6-4 198 lbs. If he plays in the HH Summer league, it would be interesting too see his game. I hope the coaching staff can improve his defense like they did others this year.

I will go out on a limb and say no freshman BU gets can play defense the way the coaching staff wants them to.

Saihou can't play in the Hersey Hawkins league, because it is not sanctioned by the NCAA. Bradley recruits can play in the league prior to their enrollment in the fall, but once they are a student-athlete, they can only appear in sanctioned summer leagues.

In order to get sanctioned by the NCAA they have to meet several criteria and apply to the NCAA. I think one of the limitations is that only 2 players from the same college team can be placed on any one summer team. That keeps a school from benefitting from their players playing together.

We should be able to see Andrew Warren, Xavier Crawford, and the other BU recruits play in the Riverplex summer league.

                      I concur.

The team did not play D this past season, IMO, the way the coaching staff wanted them to until around the SIU game at home.

I don't expect a Freshman to walk into major minutes until they play defense like we do.

Saihou is a forward and should play both forward positions (SF & PF)
And I suspect he will surprise people with both his shooting ability and his defensive abilities.
Sure he will be just a freshman in eligibility next year, but he will be like Daniel Ruffin in the sense that he will already have a year of working within Jim Les' system even before he plays his first game.

And yes, Da Coach is correct, that once a kid enrolls at an NCAA institution, he can no longer play in events and leagues such as the Hersey Hawkins Coca Cola Summer league at the RiverPlex.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Xavier Crawford and Andrew Warren playing down there, and it is even possible Sam Maniscalco could come for a few games.

Of the two different types of summer leagues, the "NCAA Sanctioned" ones allow active players on the teams' roster to play, but allow no more than two on any particular team, and although coaches can be in the facility, they cannot coach the kids nor have more than casual contact. In fact none of the league's coaches may be on the coaching staff at any NCAA institution, and they cannot charge for admission nor parking.
(the NCAA requires paperwork that includes background checks on all the coaches, a list of the student athletes participating.)

Here is a list of the requirements for the students:
                        1. Student can compete in only one (1) summer basketball league.

                        2. The league must be NCAA sanctioned.

                        3. Student can only play on the same team with one (1) other teammate from the same NCAA member institution.

                        4. Student cannot compete in an all-star game of any kind.

                        5. The league must be within 100 air miles of student's official residence at the end of the previous academic year or within 100 miles of the NCAA member institution that the student is attending.

                        6. Student cannot receive any payments for play or expenses of any kind.

                        7. Student can compete in only ???‚¬?“intraleague???‚¬?? postseason play-off tournament competition, which must be completed by August 31st.

The "Non-sanctioned leagues" allow no enrolled and active players from any NCAA school, but do allow recruits who have not yet enrolled for fall classes (summer classes are exempt).
The coaches are allowed in the gym and can have contact with the kids, but the number and amount of contact is limited.
Almost everything else is unregulated by NCAA as those participating are not yet enrolled at a member school.

I think all of us are in the dark on Saihou Jassey. Since he didn't play his senior year in high school or last year, you'd have to be at some practices to know what kind of game this kid has. I went to a couple of games at the RiverPlex last summer to see what this late signee had (I don't know what they call it when it is past the spring signing period).

He is at the weakest position for BU. Bradley becomes a much better team if Bradley can improve the wing position.
