I am totally shocked that Bill Cole didn't get even one vote for Mr. Basketball.
All he did was help his team to the title game.
      Same goes for Ryan Thornton!

Third team lists Zach Thorton from IVC. Is that Zach McCallister or Ryan Thorton?
Basketball doesn't build character it reveals it.

Don't be shocked Bill Cole isn't that good. He got his team to the title game, but what did he do in the title game? Nothing. Dehm was the star of the team. Hands down! Cole was too scared.

Not to beat a dead horse, anyone know why Osiris Eldridge didn't get a single vote?
If he is so highly rated in Chicago (listed among the 5 best on the CPL first team) then why do 25 different kids statewide get more Mr. Basketball votes than Osiris did?
Could it be that he is not impressing everyone?

Yep. not everyone. just the scouts.

Carlton Fay didn't get any votes either. What is Jim Les doing??? To think he would be so silly to recruit a kid with no Mr. Basketball votes??? shame on him.

Does this mean Fay isn't impressing everyone??? I guess it does according to you.

              c'mon man.

Fay is a junior playing for a Class A team.
I think most people can understand why he didn't get any votes, and he'll have a chance to do better next year.

Eldridge is one of the most highly hyped and promoted guys in the state.
He plays right in the middle of the biggest media hotbed in the whole midwest, he is loved to death by the most high profile recruiting website in Chicago and the people who only go to the big exposure events, and he was not only All CPL but also got All State votes.
So the answer to why guys like Willie Veasley, Mario Little, John Kinsella, and even Mike Capocci got Mr Basketball votes but not Osiris is very, very puzzling.

By the way, I would love to have OE at BU and Jim Les was recruiting him. (you don't recall??)
I just would stop a bit short of saying he'd start as a freshman at BU nor would he be an impact player or the best player ISU has, as was the statement that started all this in the first place./

OK.........Then please explain how Lucas O'Rear, Eric Hobbie, and Mike Tisdale all Class A Juniors received votes and Fay didn't????

Fay is a better college prospect than all 3 of these, yet didn't receive votes???

                  Any thoughts on this???

Not a lot of media folks to speak of in Granville, IL
But however you spin it, then the reasons OE failed to get votes are a little tougher to come by, unless you buy my original premise that the media people did see Osiris and were not as impressed.

The AP selection is based more on presonal stats and talent.
The Mr. Basketball award is more like the MVP and is likely influenced by how your team finished.
A good guy on a losing team probably will not win Mr. Basketball, but could get on the AP 3rd team.

as opposed to the bustling mecca's of civilization and multi-media outlets in Nashville, Riverton, and Vandalia???

                      try again.

plus Fay's squad went further in the tourney than Vandalia and Nashville did. I believe Riverton went 1 game further than Fay. This would dispute your notion that Fay suffered from being on a bad team.

doesn't this line of reasoning explain for yourself why Eldridge didn't receive votes??? This speaks to how his team finished as opposed to his own personal talent, right???you said it yourself, that Phillips was horrible and sub .500. wouldn't that hurt Eldridge's chances at getting Mr Basketball consideration??? isn't that what you just said????

Surely Danny you can't even believe some of the stuff you write.

Nashville is a few miles along the interstate from a city with a population of 2 million.

                        Vandalia ditto

Riverton is as close to Springfield as East Peoria is to Peoria!

By contrast Putnam Co. High School is over an hour's & 20 min.drive from Peoria (1hr, 23 min per Yahoo) and it is also over 100 miles from Chicago. The closest newspaper is from Lasalle-Peru and I'll bet you've never even heard of it.
(LaSalle News Tribune - and they pretty much only cover some local stuff and no statewide stuff!)

I really don't see why I should have to explain such a clear and simple difference.

I never said Fay was on a bad team, just that hardly anyone outside of Central Illinois has ever heard of them.

And lastly, I think Osiris' bad team performance did hurt his numbers in the Mr. Basketball voting, but it doesn't take away from the fact that his personal numbers simply couldn't help his team get over .500.
Fay plays on a decent team but nobody else will get a basketball scholarship, and yet Fay has the ability to literally carry that team by himself, and so do the other fine individuals I cited.
Obviously OE did not have that ability as the only teams they beat this year were the weaklings and sub-sub.500 guys.
                        Nice try

so you think carrying a team on your back in the public league is as easy as doing it in whatever conference Fay was in???

                          um....ok, pal.

The only reason I joined this thread was because I thought your reasoning for judging Eldridge based on Mr Basketball votes was completely stupid. But, thanks for the geography/scouting lesson along the way.

You could say the same thing over Bill Cole though? He plays in Peoria, his team took 2nd in the state, and he is going to Illinois...

Vandalia is nowhere near St Louis, Magellan.
Vandalia is considerably less than an hour's drive
on I-70 from St. Louis. I have made the trip several times.

Suffice to say all you are interested in is dissecting phrases and trying to prove tactical superiority in claiming lies.
You ask for an answer then as soon as I give it, you pick it apart as if it came from a two year old.

                              Newsflash...this is a Bradley board.
I have made NO pretense that I am a Bradley fan.
I have my opinions, and as documented and as self evident, my opinions have been right as often as anyone's, and certainly I think the debates I have had about talent at BU vs. ISU and whatever have fallen on my side of the ledger for several years.
I sense the frustration of ISU fans that all their good recruits have failed to show, flunked out, or been big busts.
You are entitled to have hope, but if PM doesn't get it done in a year or two, then even your own fans will want him gone.
That's when Osiris will transfer to BU or some other school.
