It is Roy Williams (29 votes) of North Carolina who took a bunch of McDonalds All Americans and FIVE STAR recruits to a 23-8 season,
a 2nd round loss in their ACC conference tourney and a 2nd round loss in the NCAA.
Jay Wright of Villanova (15 votes) was 2nd
Bruce Pearl (Tennessee) was 3rd with 11 votes
As if the first three names don't irritate Illinoisans enough, the remainder of the guys getting votes clearly show the East Coast, big-city, and BCS bias in this voting!
Bill Self, Kansas 7
Thad Matta, Ohio State 5
John Calipari, Memphis 2
Karl Hobbs, GW 1
Ben Howland, UCLA 1
Al Skinner, Boston College 1
George Mason coach Jim Larranaga got exactly the same number of votes that the fine coaches of several other midmajors got (Mark Few-Gonzaga, Mark Turgeon-Wichita State, etc...)
...namely zero.
And even Bill Self, whose team was supposed to have a huge dropoff finished ranked in the top 10 with a top-RPI.
He deserves at least some note!
