  • Patrick O'Bryant will be a free agent next June

In a surprising move, the Golden State Warriors failed to pick up the option they held to renew Patrick O'Bryant's contract for a 3rd year. That means POB will be an unrestricted free agent after this season ends.

Here is a quote from General Manager Chris MUllin--
"As I told Patrick, this does not mean the door is shut in regards to his future with the Warriors," executive vice president Chris Mullin said in a statement released by the team. "We will have another year to evaluate his progress and keep all of our options open for next summer."

Yeah, right, one thing seems like a good bet, POB will not be resigning with Golden State.

Golden State could be in trouble next year. As many as 10 of their current players could be free agents next year. If the Warriors don't have a great season, I look for Nelson to bail out after this season.

Maybe this will be the fuel that lights POB's fire and really gets him going. I just hope Nellie gives him the chance. I'd hate to see POB ride the pine all year and not get the opportunity to get picked up by a different NBA team next year.

Not that surprising since he hasn't been playing much. At least he made the roster, and it sounds like he's getting better. Centers can jump around the league for a LONG time.

this is disappointing. he really seemed to be playing hard in the pre-season. I just hope POB gets some time this year, as somebody will pick him up if he plays consistently. he seems to have gotten that fire of intensity a little bit, if he can maintain that he'll find a home. Maybe somewhere he'll get the minutes needed to show what he can do!

In relation to POB's contract not being renewed, I found out from a pretty reliable source that 2 of the scouts for Golden State who recommended drafting POB have been fired. I think that is pretty telling as to what the Golden State Warriors think of POB at this point.

It's hard to show much intensity while sitting on the bench. I saw a few of their games last yeear and GS's centers were bad. If POB can't play ahead of them maybe the scouts should have been fired.

It may also be a sign of how far Golden State was willing to go to please Don Nelson to get him re-signed as coach. I have read that he is constantly at odds with the judgements and philosophies of Chris Mullin, the general manager, over personnel, style of play, and playing time.

Who ever told you that information BBrave is wrong. Check your sources again before posting. The front office staff that wanted to draft POB are still with GState. You would be very shock how far GState went out of there way to see POB before taken him.

Check my sources? The person who relayed this information is an agent for NBA players, so I have a hard time doubting what he said. Yes, Chris Mullin is still there as the GM. I am not sure about their entire scouting department because I am not familiar with who they are. I'm just relaying what was conveyed to me by someone in the know. Maybe he was misinformed. Sending him to the D-League and not renewing his contract certainly supports the notion that they don't think very highly of him.
