Maurice Acker, Mid American Conf. Freshman of the Year is transferring from Ball State to Marquette.

Lawrence Westbrook a 40 point per game point guard who led the nation in scoring in high school, had committed to Iowa State does not want to play for Greg McDermott and will ask out of his LOI.

Ex-BU head coach candidate Brian Gregory at Dayton is losing two of his best returning big men, as 6-11 James Cripe is leaving and transferring to Northern Kentucky and 6-8 forward Chris Alvarez is leaving.

James Madison Univ.'s best player Ray Barbosa is leaving and transferring after JMU finished 5-23

Another recruit who had been recruited to Iowa State by prior coach Wayne Morgan has asked for and been given release, and does not want to play for new coach Greg McDermott.
P'Allen Stinnett has already been granted his release but has not stated where he will go.

I guess it works both ways, as one of the returning players on the Kansas State team is leaving and will not play for new coach Bob Huggins.
It is not known if it is the player's choice or if he was asked to leave.

6'4" sophomore Curtis Allen reportedly will transfer.

High scoring Lawrence Westbrook who pulled out of Iowa State when the coachign change took place, has recommitted elsewhere.

The answer is......he is going to Minnesota!

Westbrook did lead the country in scoring by a high schooler.

But his own high school coach said he was a ball hog.
Here is what his high school coach told a reporter from the Albuquerque Tribune when Westbrook was being recruited by New Mexico-
"No assists and no rebounds," (coach) Mike Ellsworth said. "All he does is shoot. So you'll have a ball hog on your hands."
Then I asked Ellsworth if Westbrook was a junior or a senior.
"He's a junior," Ellsworth said. "But you can have him this year."
Wake Forest, California and Michigan have also come calling, but "a lot of schools are backing off now. I haven't heard from anyone in a while," Ellsworth said.

I wonder what this coach says about his less productive players?

No decent, self respecting or even player respecting coach would ever say those things about one of his own players.

Westbrook has to prompt concerns as he has committed twice and renegged twice already (Memphis & Iowa State).

But, I would have to believe those words are in error, misquoted, or the words of a guy who is bitter about something, maybe the publicity the kid got when the coach wasn't getting any credit.

I have to ask you, if you were a coach, and the kid still had a year to play under your tutelage, would you say those things to the press about your own player?
Of course not.

The writer, Jeff Carlton, later wrote this in his blog.....

Westbrook averaged 40.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, six assists and three steals per game.
The kid had a 3.7 GPA and left the high school in Chandler, AZ and went to prep school---

How would one explain why nearly every big time college program that at one time was recruiting him backed off?
The other article also suggests the kid is not a team player, too. And I have seen other sources on the net that paint the same picture.

6'0" shooting guards aren't in high demand at most schools, although some schools in the Big Ten (Dee Brown, Rico Tucker, ) and BU (Tony Bennett, Will Franklin) have used the shorter SG's.

They'd better be good defenders, as they will often have to guard a guy 6 inches taller.

The Creighton board reports that Dominic Bishop, a junior college point guard that was offered by Bradley but chose Creighton over BU and played a reserve role last year, is leaving. He is dissatisfied with limited playing time as a reserve.

The other player reportedly leaving is Thomas Lane, a freshman who redshirted this past year. He is from Edmond, Oklahoma and went to Casady School in Oklahoma City.
