  • How ABA teams make money

The numerous ABA teams don't draw enough in attendance to make any money. So they have to be a bit creative.
Here is one way to make a few bucks--

The Chi-Land Inferno are supposedly an ABA team I have never heard of. They will have an open tryout for players this Saturday. They are charging a $100 fee for anyone who wants to tryout for the team!

This sounds like a scam to me. I looked up the ABA and there is no mention anywhere on their website of a team called the Chi-Land Inferno. The only ABA teams in Illinois are:
    The Chicago Throwbacks-

    The Peoria Kings-

So if this team, the Chi-Land Inferno is holding tryouts, they must be planning on competing this year, but apparently the ABA doesn't seem to know about it!
Even a search of the web for Chi-Land Inferno results in nothing! Does this team actually exist?

Here are the current teams in the ABA- No Chi-Land Inferno--

Here are the proposed expansion teams for 2008-2009- No Chi-Land Inferno here either--

Anyone got $100 they want to loan me?

One other interesting note-- the ABA has a franchise in Beijing, China this season, the Beijing Aoshen Olympian. Are they serious?--

They are located roughly 10,000 miles from the nearest other team. Their travel costs might be a little steep!

The Peoria Kings also charged $100 to every candidate who wanted to try out.

The Peoria Kings website had been upgraded, and they have the present roster of 22 players
who are still working hard to get a final roster spot.

A Peoria Kings Press Conference is scheduled (according to the website) for tomorrow,
November 1, from 5-7(pm I assume) at the Peoria RiverPlex.
They don't say what the press conference is about, but I would thinkit woul dbe to introduce the final players who have made the roster and possibly to introduce the new coaching staff.

Marcello Robinson is still in the mix....GO CELLO!!

I looked at that list of current ABA teams and there are a bunch of teams from last year that must have folded and are not in the ABA anymore.
The Quad Cities Riverhawks team that Jason Faulknor played for last year is gone.
Also, the Chicago Rockstars team that Tony Bennett played for last year is gone.

The life span for ABA franchises seems to be around 1 or 2 years.

I don't think Cello is going to play because of his work schedule, last I heard, unless something has changed since this weekend. It's a shame if he can't play, as I'm sure alot of Peoria people would like to see him play again.

I am sure local media will be packed in there from 5-7... nothing else going on.
