Ok, just thought I would post my thoughts on the scrimmage tonight.

Les was hilarious playing soulja brave. If you weren't there, it took a while for most people to catch on that it was Les...hilarious stuff.

First of all, Sam S. - He looks pretty decent. Moving up and down the court pretty well, wasn't impressed at all with his inside presence though, had a couple inside baskets, but expected him to be a little more dominant. He should ok inside this year, but I don't think he is an improvement over Zach Andrews at all. Sam will probably start.

Salley - Definitley buffed up since last year, which I noticed seeing him on campus. It showed tonight, and he had some nice finishes off the glass tonight. My only problem with him is Salley's avoidance of dunking. Alot of times I'm thinking, just dunk the ball, but he goes off the glass.

Crouch - Fully recovered from his shoulder problem. looks good, didn't hit alot of shots tonight, but was himself. I think he will be nearly as good as last year, maybe not quite as high of a percentage of 3's, but still very good.

Ruffin - He just keeps getting faster and faster. By far the best player on the court tonight. Hit a couple three's and easily drove in to the basket several times through a defense that was very stiff. Looked great out there. I would bet he is the best player in the MVC this year.

Warren - Looked more athletic, but didn't seem to sink many shots tonight. He didn't get alot of time, so it was difficult to judge. He does look larger, and still just as fast.

Collins - This guy is the tallest man on the team!! His upper body is ripped, but his legs look small, and he seemed to get up and down the court pretty fast. Most of the new guys are fast. Collins should be a good rebounder, not sure about shooting yet.

Sam Maniscalco - Definitly the future of Bradley, he will be a good PG. He does seem to be adjusting to DI speed, he had some handling problems, but that is to be expected from a freshman. Should be fine and competing for minutes. 08-09 season he should be a solid force at PG.

Egolf - has big ups for a white guy...

Tyrone Cole-Scott - Ok, I have to say I was extremely impressed with him. He looks shorter than Ruffin, but by god, he has to be one of the fastest most athletic guys on the court. This guy is insane. Not only is he ripped, but wow, he has got some insane moves around and under the rim.

    A. Thompson - Thin, but could be a good threat down the road, very athletic.

    R. Austin - He is in great shape, ripped and looks like he can hold his own with anyone. Didn't get alot of time in there tonight, but I expect to see more from him.

Overall the scrimmage started out sloppy, huge defensive effort. The offense will have to step up. Quite a few passing turnovers etc. We will know more after both the preseason games.

All the guys look athletic, some of the freshmen look thin, which is to be expected. Count on it taking the Juco's a while to get up to speed, they are behind, and a few of them will step up eventually.

I think the starting line-up will go as this: Ruffin, Crouch, Salley, Warren/Cole-scott, and Singh/Collins.

I think we need to be patient, don't listen to everything that people are saying about the team after just the scrimmage. Alot is going to happen over the next couple of weeks, and we will see how they do on their opener.

Yeah...I've been in college for a while now and I'm pretty sure that awesomest is not a word. -Andrew E.

Agree with most of your starting line up but as of now I would start Collins over Singh.
This probably is contrary to what people on this board think, but i saw enough flashes
of talent with Collins to start him for now. See my post on the other thread.. I am afraid that Collins may be foul prone ala Zach... and again it is very evident that Sam Singh has worked very hard over the summer.

Collins did not win the tip (was that vs Will?) Is that enough to change a starting lineup?

No, I don't think failing to win one tip is reason enough not to start him. He can plain jump... it's just that Egolf got up quick, having timed it perfectly and can also really jump.

Nice racial remark. I take offense to that being a white guy who used to be able to jump. How about if I said something like "pretty smart for an African American" or "pretty tall for an Asian" or "fairly athletic for a Jew" or "fast for a hispanic"? I guess Sam M. was pretty quick for an Italian, huh?

Not sure where you are going with this ph? Collins did loose the tip but as fish said, that was a timing issue.... This happend in a scrimmage so I am not concerned with Collins loosing the tipoff.

It seems that Jim always starts the best guy for winning the tip-off. Since it is so fun talking about potential starting lineup, I am just trying to inject another facet of determining a potential starting lineup. (It could be that in the past the best for winning the tip was the best 5 so tip off winning is just a bonus)
POB was overall outstanding for winning the tip. Based on this one scrimmage and one attempt, Collins was not.
Right now, I cannot see starting Will (too unsure about his D) so perhaps Collins is #2 during the tip and still starts...

that's cool.... From Friday, I am more concerned with freethrows and Sam M pushing off his defender..fwiw... I know what you mean about potential starting lineups... it is fun to
                figure out.

How conisitent has JL been in keeping scrimmage Starting 5 (like St. Ambrose or Qunicy) into the season (like UIC)?

I thought Sam Singh looked much more mobile and better than I thought he would. I wouldn't be surprised if Sam starts Thursday ahead of David Collins or Rashad Austin. As those juco guys develop and learn the offense and defense, I think they may move into the starting lineup eventually.

I agree with the first half of your statement, SS looked very good compared to what I've seen in the past. However, I don't know that he looked good enough or particularly quick enough to start. I expect to see a 4th guard or Collins starting...

SS showed me that he looks physically able to contribute this year. I'm don't think he'll start, but I see no reason why he couldn't be part of a big man rotation, especially against bigger, slower, back-to-the-basket type big men. I think Collins and Salley anchor the frontline, with JC and Ruff in the backcourt, and either TCS or AW taking the 3rd perimeter spot.

Yeah I thought SS played much better than I expected... but I think Collins will start because of his height. Just being on the floor and able to run with the team makes his height pretty valuable. I do think that at least initially he'll get called for some fouls, and so SS will get quite a few minutes.

I agree... I think that SS will be a perfect guy to get in a rotation coming off the bench.
I would prefer AW over TCS, only if AW can step up and become a scorer. AW hasnt shown that yet..imo
