Lavin impressed me....I'm sure he won't be playing a whole lot barring injury, but its good to know that we have someone like that in case something bad happens. He went 2-2 from 3pt range and looked good handling the ball...he looked like he belonged out there.

I was not impressed by our team at the scrimmage tonight as we did not shoot the ball very well and had very little post play; but I also realize that they probably practiced earlier and the multiple subs we used made it hard for the players to get any kind of offensive flow going; it looks as though we may be playing two forwards along with 3 guards to start the season as our bigger players have more work to catch up with our guards; I believe that we will be able to tell more about this team after the St.Ambrose and Quincy games as it should give all of the new players a little more time to get the system down, if we are going to have any chance to win the league championship and beat a team like Mich.St. we need to have a true center as we cannot rebound or even defend those teams without one; looking forward to thurs. night as it will be a real game.

From all the reports here I'm going to conclude this. Red vs. White was similar to the Valley last year. We beat the hell out of each other because we were all good and it looked bad to the external attention.

It's a little early...so we won't do a pick-em, but what do people think will be the attendance at the Red-White game with such a highly anticipated group of incoming players?

I'll make an early projection.......3750 on a cold rainy night!
WHOA! 3,782 on a cool rainy night!

Well, finally tornado got something right!

Again, I have uploaded some pictures of the spaghetti supper and some video clips of the game and dunk contest for viewing.

If anyone would like to see them, please send me a PM. They won't be posted for open viewing.

I wasn't at the game, but I'm glad most people are taking the wait and see approach until a real game. Let's say everyone is making their shots, this board could easily turn to "omg we have no defense or hustle."

Everyone makes some good points. I guess the comment that got me the most was if we would have been draining a bunch of threes we would have been "OMG no defense". You could be right.

I was just disappointed in the post play. Maybe moreso that we didn't look to pound it inside. I guess in a scrimmage like this its hard to get a real feel so I too look forward to more gametime scenarios like this coming thursday.

Looking for midseason form in the first simulated game is not fair......

Can't wait until Thursday. I'll just shut up and watch.

The players spent all evening doing PR work, signing autographs, and eating spaghetti, then had to stand around while the womens' game went way, way, way long because of all the stinking time-outs being called, then waited further for the introductions, dance routines, and jokes, then the players got a grand total of about 5 minutes to warm up, shooting ONLY a few layups during the warmups.

Then they were subbed in and out like lightning, nobody spent more than a couple minutes straight on the floor except DRuff, and a full quarter of the players out there were the walk-ons, plus each player was teamed on the floor with others that once the regular season starts, they'll never be teamed together on the floor at the same time (like Phillips and Thornton in the starting lineup with Crouch!!)
So all the comments about them not looking too impressive are fair comments...but with an asterisk.
Nobody there can doubt the fitness, athleticism, skills, and abilities of the main 6-8 players who are going to be our horses in the Valley race.

I can't believe all the fans can really expect every shot to go in! The kids were NOT given adequate chance to go through their pregame warm-ups, and all those other factors played a part, too.

                        again....really??
In what was likely only 8-9 minutes of play in a NON-starting role last night, Sam Singh had
NINE points and 7 rebounds, Austin posted up nicely a couple times, Collins had NINE rebounds,
and nobody really had many turnovers.....Ruffin leading in turnovers with 3, but Wilson, Egolf, and Austin had zero,
turnovers and Salley and Thompson each had only one.

This has been a great thread for those of us who could not attend in person. Sounds like the team is in good shape at this point -- deep, better rebounding, outstanding guard play ... Nothing I've read concerns me. The team always has a little rust on the valves in the red-white - but JL will have them polished for game 1 as DePaul found out for the last few years.

I was expecting to watch the film on bubraves.com this morning, but it wasn't taped as it has been in last years. That is inexecusable. Fans outside the Peoria-area rely upon this - very disappointing.

shaunguth, that 3782 certainly looks like it was an attempt to get an accurate count maybe from the ticket sales, but I am certain there were a bunch of fans who were not counted. By the time the womens game dragged way longer to almost 7:45PM, and then the mens game got started, they were no longer even taking tickets, and the lobby doors were opened.
BUT-- there were still people arriving -- I saw plenty, maybe having to walk several blocks and spending extra time looking for parking, or maybe just coming quite late just to watch some of the mens game only.
My own personal estimate as I stood in the Fieldhouse lobby at the mens' halftime (around 8:10PM), was that a minimum of several dozen and maybe even a couple hundred people went uncounted by the ticket sales totals,
which means the real count would indeed be over 4000.
Regardless, I really don't recall making that post, but I am glad you found it, shaunguth.

3,782 in attendance for a scrimmage, well
Indiana State averaged 4,328 at home last year and that doesn't take into account the no-shows!
ISU averaged 5,205 at home last year
and at least one ACC team doesn't even average 3,782
