Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

How do we not know Sam M won't be playing the same position? During the interview, it was said that Sam M has been playing against Ruffin. So I assume during the scrimmages, Sam would be the PG for the opposing team.
Sam is definitely one of the players I'm looking forward to seeing on the court.

By all indications, Sam M is a scoring point. so they are, at least different types of players.
I think everyone assumed that Sam M was Ruffin's full replacement, then Bradley got a comittment from Eddrin McCain which lead many to believe Sam M would be playing more of a 2 (shooting / combo guard) in the future.

As far as comparisons to his coach, Sam is a much better scorer than Jim was at this point in his career. Also, similar to the Sam/DR comparisons, Jim was a pass-first point, whereas Sam is a scorer.
Everyone should be excited to see Sam play. He's a good one!Onward and Upward!

If he has a season similar to Andrew Warren's freshman campaign (14 mpg, 4 ppg, 2 rpg, 46% 3-pt, 83% FT) I think we should be very excited. Remember, Sam will be playing behind 2 all-conference caliber guards, and competing with a strong 6'4" sophomore and explosive 5'10" junior. Sam will definitely contribute, but let's not set the bar too high. Saying he'll be better than Dan Ruffin is saying an awful lot, especially when they're not even really going to be playing the same position.
I concur and its why I said remember he's still a freshman. He's not explosive and I don't think he's real quick. Thats NOT a knock but he's going up against bigger, stronger and faster now. He'll be fine but it will take some time and an adjustment period.

If Sam can play some D that would be a huge bonus! I'm sure he will come in for some instant offense and a zone buster to spread out the opponents D. I'm keeping my expectations low on him this year after all he is only a freshman. At best he averages 8 mpg, 6 ppg, 2 apg, 1 rpg and that would be really nice. These stats change upward if he can really D up downward if not.
On another note I can only hope that Ruffin and Crouch gives the us the same excitement as JL and HH did 20 years ago."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

I can still see Sam's dad, Carl, and Harold McMath standing in the corner of the Fieldhouse with Larry Bird while the other 7 players played the game. Larry only scored 4 points, but Carl Nicks was the real scorer that night for Indiana St. We were lucky that was before the 3 point line or it would have been worse. What part of illegal don't you understand?
