I've ranked my top 25 seniors in Illinois. Just to spark up some conversation. I don't claim to be a professional scout but I've been around A LOT of basketball in my years.

    Good job. Thanks.
I haven't seen a lot of these guys, so don't take my questions as any sort of suggestion that I am disagreeing with your rankings. But.....

When has any of the tall, athletic African kids ever come to US high schools, and not eventually been shown to be overrated when they get to college?

You do not have Carl Richard listed anywhere. He was good last year at Oak Lawn Richards, but has been even more impressive at some exposure events this late summer. Do you have second thoughts about not putting him in there? Other sites rank him in the top 20.

Same with John Shurna (Glenbard West). Others have him in the Top 20. Is he overrated in your judgement?

Isiah Williams? Do you think he is Top 25 good? I haven't seen him, but other sites have as many as 9 or 10 point guards in the 2008 class ranked higher than him.

And a couple others that have been ranked by others as Top 20 players in the class of 2008 that you omit, and I happen to agree with you. They are very good players, but I assume you think they have been a little overrated?-- Cully Payne (Burlington, and now Schaumberg), Chris Parrish (Riverside-Brookfield), Rob Belcore (Loyola Academy).

I agree with you on a lot of the kids that come over from Africa (I still think Koshwal will be amazing thoguh) but this kid is legit! He's considered an NBA prospect already and for good reason. His brother (or cousin can't remember) currently plays at Rutgers and may be a starter this season.

Carl Richard is a tough player but honestly I haven't seen him enough to accurately rank him in the top 25.

Shurna is a bit overrated to me. I think he fit the Illinois Wolves system very well which helped him with the offer from Northwestern. He'll do solid in their system but will be an average player at their school. He's undersized for a 4-man but is skilled. I'd give him top 50.

Isiah Williams was big time as a freshman but didn't progress as some thought he would. However, I feel a lot of people took it to another level. He has still been a standout at Farragut and on the AAU circuit and I've heard that he's got some solid schools still on him.

Cully Payne is a 2009 kid.

Chris Parrish is solid but was much bigger and stronger than his classmates when he first came in (though he is young for his class). A lot of players have caught up with him but I still believe he's in that top 35-40 range.

Rob Belcore is somewhat the same way. He was taught the skills and fundamentals early and had a lot more size than most of his classmates early on. People have caught up with him and his lack of athleticism has been getting to him. I think he's top 50 (used to think top 15) but too many have surpassed him. I've known for a while that he had a ceiling though...

      Just my opinions...

Sorry about Payne. His name has been mentioned for so long I forgot he is still class of 2009. It will be fun watching all these kids this year.
Maybe some of the other kids at the top could drop a little as others develop more. That always happens to some seniors/late bloomers.

Oh yea - he must be good.

Uh-oh... wait a sec... Rutgers? The same Rutgers that BU pounded last season.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Just havin fun...

Richards is top 15, and Shurna is too!
            Why Stewart so high?

Like I said, in my opinion, Shurna is very overrated. Also, as I previously stated, I haven't seen Richard enough to accurately evaluate him.

Stewart averaged nearly 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists playing alongside Verdell Jones, a top 100 national recruit. He is 6'5" and can play both guard slots and do it all. The lack of exposure playing with Speice Indy Heat is what did him in...if he would have stayed with Team Illinois I think he would have ended up at a high major program and a lot more "talent evaluators" would rate him as one of the best in his class.

Let me add my thanks to you guys who see and know a lot about the prep ball being played around the state, coming on and adding your assessments.

But isn't it true, that most of the sites that rank and assess these kids, simply don't get as much chance to see the downstate kids as the Chicago area kids?

Just my own personal opinion.....if Matt Roth, Tyler Storm, Jeremy Robinson, even Kenny Leverette (14ppg/9rpg as a junior) who carried his team (O'Fallon) to the Class AA Final GAME last spring,
were playing in Chicago, they'd still be hitting for 25 on any given night, but they'd getting tons more press and be Top 10 for sure.
