The McDonald's All-American high school boys' basketball game was held in San Diego last night. The only 2 Illinois players, Chicago Crane guard Sherron Collins, and Glenbrook North guard Jon Scheyer, had good games.
Scheyer didn't get the mention or the praise that several other players did, but he essentially turned the game around and won it for his West squad.
The East-West split was somewhere in Indiana with the Illinois kids on the West, but Oden on the East.
The West kids were too fancy, making bad passes and selfish shots and were trailing 76-72 when Scheyer entered in the 2nd half.
He not only drained 2 3-pointer, but made a couple nice passes and helped spur a huge run for the West that saw them ahead 108-90 in the next 6-8 minutes.
I thought the player of the game should have been Chase Budinger. He is a Larry Bird-kind of player who can shoot, pass, rebound, and control all aspects of the game.
He also clearly won the dunk contest that was shown after the game, but was robbed when all the judges had voted to give perfect scores to Gerald Henderson, Jr.
