Bloomington guard D'Mitri Riggs

I have not heard whether Bradley is interested, but D'Mitri Riggs is a very athletic 6'3" combo guard from Bloomington High School. He is from the class of 2009.

Bloomington High School has an unusual "culture."

You seem to have the "old money blue bloods" from the Bloomington Country Club area and you have the urban kids.

Neither seems to have a positive influence on the other.

I think you see a little of it with the lack of cohesivness and discipline with BHS hoops. You have players like Justin Bocot or even Dodie Dunson (qualifier, but obviously not ready for Div. 1 hoops) who are known to be scholarship caliber candidates from the time they are in Jr. H.S. but somehow don't get the directions necessary to make to most of their opportunity.

I have questioned for years why BHS doesn't do better.
At one time they had five future D-I kids with Bocot, both Dunsons, Holtz, and Riggs, all playing varsity at the same time, and they still couldn't win their own regional. They even had Lawrence and Hainline (a D-II and a solid NAIA player) and others.

I doubt many HS in the state produced any more D-I players and 4-yr-college players as BHS has over the past couple years...but yet they seem to never go anywhere.
Oddly...after the bulk of the talent LEFT, then they win two regionals in a row, go figure??

But with the talent they have had, they ought to be challenging to the Sectional every year.

The problem with Bloomington HS is the coaching and the discipline installed in the kids.

Dodie Dunson, Brandon Dunson, Brandon Holtz, and Cory Hainlen were all kids who always came to play with the right attitude and it showed both on and off the court. Great kids who made smart decisions and were fan favorites. Not saying Bocot, Riggs, or Lawrence weren't good kids but they always came with a selfish "my way or the highway" type attitude. This was a big reason they weren't as successful as they should've been.

The younger Dunson and Riggs never played together. The younger Dunson transferred to Bloomington Central Catholic before his junior season. He was promoted to varsity both his freshman and sophomore year but opted to play sophomore both seasons...freshman year because of numbers, sophomore year because of problems between him and the head coach.

They may have been the most talented team in the area never to win the big games.

D'Mitri Riggs said in an interview this morning, that Indiana State is on him the hardest and it seems that where he's leaning.
I guess InSU has some open scholarships after thinning its roster.

InSU was on him hard but the coach recruiting Riggs, Stan Gouard, has left for University of Indianapolis. Most close to him expect Valparaiso or Missouri State to be his choice.

He's rated pretty well all around... surprised it's a juco thing if it's not academic-related.

Heard part of an interview with him(Poneman) on ESPN radio (local) yesterday. Took me a while to notice who they were interviewing.

Riggs had 42 last night against Normal Community, BHS lost the game.


Riggs did much of his damage by penetrating. He got to the free-throw line 19 times, making 16. He was 11 of 26 from the field while the rest of the Raiders went 2 of 12.
