  • Thanks to the 06-07 Braves

As we open the door on a new season I just wanted to reflect on one of my favorite teams in any sport of all time. The passing game was like poetry. The effort was tremendous. They were very entertaining and always played with high energy.

This quote from the PJ Star sums it up well for me.

"But mostly, the Braves have proven a team working together, no matter the individual shortcomings, can achieve well beyond expectations. It's a great lesson for us all."
    Dave Reynolds

I have so many favorite moments but I do not want to take them all. So here is one of mine.

Late in the game against Providence after a timeout Danny Adams and JJ walked onto the court to take there defensive positions both against players a foot (?) taller than they were. Each one looked at the other and kind of shook their head like they were saying to each other mine is bigger than yours. That can-do attitude was fun to watch and they held there guys down enough to win.

    What was your favorite moment?

While watching the VCU game, In the 2nd half, I noticed VCU frantically turning up the ball pressure on Bradley.
Now, in previous years, pressure rattled the Braves, hense the 0-fer vs Drake earlier in Jim's career.
... against VCU, Bradley continued to calmly bring the ball up the court, as if Bradley was asking "why waste your energy?"

A few weeks later, that VCU pressure rattled Duke's "more talented" guards, ending their Sweet 16 run.

Great thread NG. That was also one of my favorite sporting campaigns of all time.

A couple moments that still stand out in my mind were...

Since Crouch is my favorite player and one of my favorite Braves of all time, I loved the show he put on against VCU on ESPN2. Bradley won that game like it was old hat and what they were supposed to do. And Crouch was 6 of 9 from deep.

Also, it will be hard to forget Will Franklin's throw-in three to beat Northern at Arch Madness. One of the most thrilling live moments I've ever taken in, in person.

I liked the look on Larry Eustachy's face when he called time out late in the game and dressed down his players for being pansies (using words that were a bit harsher), as they were about to lose to BU.

-Franklin's shot to beat SIU at Carver Arena was awesome.

-Another play that was awesome was during the home game against Wichita State. Zach Andrews had the ball below the basket. He then did a no look pass over his head to J.J. Tauai, I think. J.J. then knocked down the three.

-When Crouch tried to throw an alley-oop pass to Zach, but he was off target just a bit. Zach somehow was able to reach far enough behind him to grab the ball for a thunderous dunk. I think it was the ISU road game.

Many great moments...just a very fun season to watch.

The DePaul game comes to mind. I didn't know what to expect. I didn't think we'd be any good. And then we unleash the four guard offense and start draining threes...it was something...Wainwright was utterly shell shocked and never figured out he had to extend his defense to actually defend the three.

It really set the tone for the season.

Mine was the Indiana State game AT ISU. ISU had just beaten all the Indiana teams and was feeling great, and honestly a little cocky. I we went in there and put our foot done announcing to the valley - 'We have arrived' and in that game JJ pulled a completely bogus spin move like we did in the back yard as kids, and scored... My friend and I went crazy and I accidentally smeared all my face paint. That was such a fun game.

The dominating win against Iowa State in Des Moines.

The majority of the fans were, of course, Iowa State fans. They were aq little in shock at how good Bradley was. The most common remark I kept hearing was, "who are these guys?".
