Here is a followup story on Brittney Griner, the 6-8 Houston high schooler who can dunk with ease........
She accomplished something that is exceedingly RARE in a basketball game at any level anywhere....grade school, high school, college, pro...whatever...
She recorded a QUINTUPLE DOUBLE
"Griner, a 6-foot-8 junior, is one of the best female centers in the nation. She's averaging 25 points, 13 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game this season, just her third playing basketball.
She has also received national attention for her dunking ability. Her dunks have recently been getting lots of attention on various Internet sites especially her YouTube highlight reel.
In a recent playoff game against Houston Westside, Griner had two dunks along with a quintuple-double ??“ 29 points, 20 rebounds, 13 blocks, 11 assist and 10 steals.
Griner, now 16, (only a junior) ........averaged 23 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.1 blocks and shot 65 percent from the field as a sophomore."

???????????????????????????????????????Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

But in all seriousness, I'm guessing she's been checked for all the correct running gear, so to speak.

Did she have arm extension surgery or been stretched on a rack daily her whole life? Man, had I had arms that long I could have touched the top of the backboard. Of course, now I would have to have all my shirts custom made...
People always rave about verticle leap, but it is really arm length that makes a bigger difference for most players. I have always wondered why that is not talked about near as much?

actually I recall very similar hype a couple years ago when Michigan State landed 6-9 center Allyssa DeHaan... a high school sensation who averaged 27 ppg and 13 rpg.
People said she'd change the game and also likened her to the advent of Wilt Chamberlain...but now we are THREE years later, and it didn't exactly happen that way.
Once the defenses watch a little tape, they can find weaknesses...and DeHaan is kept away from the basket and never dunks....and has yet to show the dominance that was predicted.
Allyssa was a full time starter right from her first freshman game, so by the time she graduates she'll have pretty good career stats...
but with only one season remaining, her season averages have been 10.8 (46% shooting), 14.4 (48%), and 12.5 (53%).
...also, for a player who stands nearly a FOOT taller than most of the other players on the court, her rebounding stats are decent but not spectacular...
Freshman 6.3 rpg, Soph 7.3, 7.5...
I am sure just about every D-I team in the nation would love to have her, but still, those numbers barely fit Alyssa inside the top 20 in scoring, and barely inside the top 15 in rebounding.
I think most of the comparisons to Wilt Chamberlain have been put on the back burner.
BTW-- here is Allyssa trying to dunk,
