  • Devin Hill Commits To DePaul

Just spoke to Devin Hill, and he has confirmed that he committed to DePaul University. In the conversation, he stated that he knew DePaul was the place for him, and that he didn't want to waste Bradley's time so they can look for a player instead of him coming this weekend.

Thought I'd put that out there for you guys.

Too bad. I'd think he would have at least hear us out and visit us considering we beat DePaul in the recent years.

I know ser_solace, but Appalachain State beat Michigan, and yet if BOTH SCHOOLS
offered you a full football scholarship......duh...which would you take....
I can't hardly blame the kid wanting to play in the Big East over the MVC, but we
        are getting a lot closer.

Nothing against Depaul but......we can beat them ON the court but lose out to them due to name recognition. The names DePaul and Big East are bigger than Bradley and The VAlley.

First the Valley has to change to the BIG VALLEY and BU has to get Depaul to put us back on the sked so we can continue the smackdowns.

I dont think us beating them is going to sway anyone. The fact is they are in Chicago and in the Big East, we are in Peoria and in the Missouri Valley. Always the brides maid never the bride....
            Can we start winning soon?

I hate to lose a recruit to Jerry the used car salseman Wainright, but I can see this verbal for many reasons. Depaul plays in the Big East - a power conference. He will be able to get back home for several games over his career. It sounds like he has involved parents as they were going to make the trip with him. And lastly, 4 members of his AAU team signed with Big East teams. He would lose a lot of cred with his peeps if he signed at a perceived lesser school. I for one hope the coaching staff continues to recruit this type of player. Sooner or later we will reap the reward!!

What's Depaul's campus like? Do they have one or is it just buildings in the city? Also do not down play Bradley's (Peoria) community. There will be a blue chipper that is bright and mature enough to realize that they can grow more quickly as a person and as a basketball player in one of the MVC's schools. These kids are still young and are focusing like a moth on the big bright lights.

Depaul's campus is the middle of one of the best places to live in the country. I loved my time at Bradley and I love going to Peoria but it is not Lincoln Park, Chicago. They do have to travel pretty far off campus to play their games which is a drawback but I dont think it takes a great salesmen to sell Chicago's northside against Peoria.

I do wish for Devin's sake and Bradley's sake that he would have made his visit to BU. I understand that maybe his mind was made up after visiting the DePaul campus, but usually the best decisions are made a few days after the initial excitement has settled down a bit and the more rational side of the brain can consider all of the facts. There must have been something that Devin liked in the BU coaches to have kept BU on the list this long. At this point, the recruit should follow through and see the campus. If his decision is still DePaul, then so be it. The reasons for wanting to play at DePaul would be many for any recruit (the city, the conference, ...), but there are lot of great things about playing for Bradley too which have been pointed many time by the posters on this board.

                          DallasBrave,

Devin felt like committing right after his visit to DePaul, but he wanted something to compare it to. So he went to St. Louis the following week, and 2 days after the visit ended, offered up his verbal to DePaul. So it was 9 days after he left Chicago that he ended his recruitment.

Everytime I talk to Devin, he has been nothing but extremely complementary of Jim Les and how Bradley recruited him. The factors that it really came down to was; location (Peoria vs. Chicago/Lincoln Park) and what the schools were recruiting him for. Hill wants to be a three, and DePaul spoke about their desire to develop him at the three. Bradley was looking at him being more of a four.

You make a few goods points comparing Chicago to Peoria, but I must say there are more issues as to why he should have chose BU.
1.) We have had our way with them yearly the last several. Even at there place.
2.) The atmosphere at Carver vs there place is no comparison. The last time we beat them at there place we had as many BU fans there as they did for there home game. If you have been to both venues the atmosphere is not even close.
3.) Not sure of numbers but I'd bet we have more ex players playing some where in this world for pay Than DePaul.
4.) I subscribe daily to the Tribune and the PJ Star. The Trib has yet to mention Devins verbal. If he would have verbaled here it would have been front page stuff in the PJ Star. I guess I just don't get it. Can someone help me out other than to say how nice it is to live in Lincoln Park?

The idea that a recruit would be influnced by one schools recent record against another seems off base to me, I dont think its a factor at all. Aside from that; the exact reason he choose Depaul is provided on this post. We wanted him to be a 4 and he wanted to be a 3. Depaul told him he could be a 3 if he went there. End of story..I hope we get Stan Simpson
