The Sycamores trailed most of the 2nd half, but regained the lead in the final 5+ minutes and pulled away for the win. Samage Teel had 36 points to lead Indiana State. Chase Walker (22 points) and Johnny Kinziger (21 points) were the leading scorers for Illinois State.
Illinois State drops to 15-12 overall and 7-9 in the MVC.
Indiana State improves to 13-14 and 7-9 in the MVC.
Indiana State is playing better. They have won 4 of their last 6 games, and the two losses were an overtime loss at Drake, and a loss at UNI. Samage Teel is averaging over 22 ppg over the last 6 games.
Prior to that, they had lost 6 straight games, and 8 of 9. Could they be getting hot at just the right time?
And, is it time for us to say that nobody wants to face __Indiana State__ in the tournament?
Feel free to switch any other Thursday team into the space.
The UNI game at Murray State scheduled for 6 pm today has been postponed due to ongoing power outages related to the storms and flooding issues in Kentucky.
It will be played Monday, Feb. 17, at 6:00 pm in Nashville at the Curb Center on the campus of Belmont University. - https://mvc-sports.com/news/2025/2/1...on-monday.aspx
That's too bad for Murray St to lose a home game though it is at an arena they are pretty familiar with. This is still a tough stretch for UNI as after the 2 games in 3 days in Nashville they host Drake on Sunday, host UIC on the 26th and play here on March 2nd. Definitely the hardest schedule of the top 4 teams. Drake hosts UIC on Wednesday is at UNI on Sunday and is at Evansville on the 26th and hosts Missouri State on the 2nd. Belmont is home to UNI on Wednesday and to ISU Blue on Saturday is at Missouri State on the 26th and is home to Murray State on the 2nd.
It is a big break for Northern Iowa, who is battling Bradley and Drake for the top 3 seeds in the postseason tournament.
Murray State already gave Northern Iowa one of their 4 conference losses when they played in Cedar Falls back on Jan. 8, so they should be quite happy they don't have to play them in Murray, KY.
So now, instead of having to play them in one of the most difficult road venues in the league with 5,000 hostile fans, they now have a much easier game at a neutral site, hours away from the Murray State campus where there will be far fewer fans.

Still a tough schedule for UNI. At home to Drake and then travel to Belmont..
It's an advantage for UNI no doubt, but I will imagine that a decent amount of Murray State fans will still go to this game. Some already live in the Nashville area anyway and it's only about a 2 hour drive from Murray to Nashville, so I would imagine they will still get a decent turnout. Of course, if anyone up there is dealing with flood issues, that might sway them.
The interesting thing will be the walkup crowd of Belmont fans, including students, who will actually go to the game for free and root against Murray State since the two schools are definitely rivals and do not like each other.
In the 2 other games UIC scored 6 of the last 8 points to pull away from Missouri St 63-58. The Bears was able to get 2 three point chances with under :10 to go to tie it up but missed. In the other game Valpo led at the half in Evansville 44-40 and was able to extend it to 8 early in the 2nd half. But they went scoreless for over 5:00 while Evansville score 12 straight taking a lead they wouldn't relinquish. winning it 79-69.

This will be interesting to see, since Belmont is currently sitting in 4th place and they have a chance to improve their seed. But they would need UNI to lose a couple more games. So if there are Belmont fans at the game, and since they don't attend their own home games in great numbers, I don't expect there will be very many, they might opt to cheer for Murray State to knock off UNI.
Unfortunately, the game is not scheduled to be on ESPN+.
