  • Bradley and Illinois

We all witnessed the performance against UIC or lack of performance. Same can be said in the game between Illinois and Nebraska. Illinois did not come ready to play. So Bradley is not the only team this happens to. Do not understand how this happens, but it does. Hope to see the Bradley team we have seen before. Play hard and execute, and we should win. Am sure Wardle and staff got after the team to play much better. Family commitments prevent me from watching the game live, but will record the game to watch later. "LET"S GO BRAVES"

Yes, it's extremely difficult to go through the league schedule and not have some games where a team underperforms or an opponent has a great game. Last year's Indiana State team was a great team, but they ended up with 3 losses, plus they were upset in the MVC tournament. No team has gone undefeated in the MVC since Wichita State in 2014, and before that it was Bradley in 1986. And let's not overlook that UIC is a very good team. Only Bradley and Drake have fewer losses.
Tomorrow will be a tough game, but I expect the Braves to bounce back and play much better.

The thing about the bigger schools losing is not equal to us because the Big ten will get 8 to 10 at large bids to the big tour. where we will only get the auto. qualifier so they do not have as much at stake. I do understand it is hard to motivate college players each and every game but when you have a roster full of veterans they should understand by now the importance of these games. Sometime you just struggle on a certain night but that should never have an effect on your effort.

I've said a few times, this team does have weaknesses, and well-coached opposing teams will exploit them.
Look on the positive side...Bradley is 9-2 and tied for 1st place. Even in the 2 seasons Bradley won the MVC Tournament (2019 & 2020), they never were in contention for 1st place after the halfway mark. Especially 2018-19, when the Braves started the MVC schedule 0-5, finished 9-9, and won a tiebreaker to avoid the Thursday night play-in games.
This season, of the 9 wins so far, 2 were overtime wins (double OT at home vs Valpo, and OT at Indiana State) and 2 more were nail biters to the end (the miracle win at UIC and the home win over ISU). If those 4 games had not gone Bradley's way, they could be 5-6.
All I'm saying is this team is good, but not invincible. And even good teams have close wins and unexpected losses. Enjoy the ride, and if they get to March in a healthy state, I think they'll be in the best position to win the MVCT.

Agree, but when expectations were so high it is disappointing for fans to see us lose home games that we were favored to win. Going down to Murray St. and Belmont and winning 2 tough road games makes your expectations even higher.

I don't think we were picked to win the valley in the years DC is referencing. Also we didn't have a preseason MVP and another 1st team MV conference player in Hannah. Maybe it is the talent level? Is it lack of toughness?

I agree that the substitution pattern sometimes seems unusual. As has been mentioned, feed the hot hand don't take it out of the game unless the player he is guarding is scoring more points.

Losing by a few points in OT on the road is not the same as losing by 20+ at home....I only saw a few minutes of the IL/Neb game but it didn't look like any of the players on the court had given up. In my mind these two games are only comparable in that both BU and IL lost.

The flaw in your argument is that preseason picks mean nothing. The players who got the most votes were simply the better returning players.
And, the top teams in the poll were the teams that had the most players returning.
And in the poll, UIC was picked 12th, dead last. Murray State was picked 3rd.
And several of the preseason all-MVC players are not even starting for their teams. So how can anyone take the poll seriously now?
