  • what's up?

Last night was a historic win - I believe the biggest victory and highest scoring total ever in an MVC game,
and yet here it is 9am the next morning and the BUBRAVES Athletic Dept website still doesn't have a story or a report
about the game? Don't they have Sports Info people? They list a whole bunch of people whose jobs are Marketing,
Social Media, Communications, Fan Engagement and Creative Content. Can't someone get a story up in 12 hrs?
I am as pro-BU as anyone and have 50+ yrs of fandom & season ticket holder, and I am troubled with how
poor the current "engagement" is, whether it's responding to fan issues, ticket-holder issues or promotions & publicity.
    What has happened?

Know the feeling. Have tried contacting people about when they have the small kids practice before performing at half time of a game. Sent e- mails, tried phone calls, stopped by the ticket office and can never get a response for info on the subject. One time my granddaughters were with me at a game and these kids performed at half time. They were obviously disappointed. Never heard from them or any announcement at the games saying when the event was going to be. So yes, have the common courtesy of answering a e-mail or returning a phone call. Is that so much to ask

Yes. I met with 2 people employed by Bradley and Dave Snell last year with ideas to improve the fan experience. I listed many ideas that I have seen at the United Center that could be implemented at the Civic Center with minimal or no cost. Nothing has changed. Well, at least the Civic Center has a new scoreboard, cleaner restrooms with warm water to wash our hands, and Avanti’s is there.

I know for a fact that there are Bradley alums, fans and others from 1000 miles away who read the score or woke up
this morning and wondered how Bradley did, so they went to the Bradley website to read about the record breaking performance,
and wanted to learn more about the game than the two line auto-generated summary that shows up on ESPN after the game.
Only to find the only thing they had there was a box score. I see they finally do have a brief story up at noon, but no
comments or words from coaches or players- https://bradleybraves.com/news/2025/...ana-state.aspx

I understand the complaints posted, but in the world we live in now, the story on the team website ranks well down the list of where people go to get their information. Obviously, that would've been unthinkable in the 2000s.

The other thing: the tasks/jobs that were once done by X people are now being done by X-N people, where N is a whole number between 1 and X-1. I talked to someone who has social media duties for one of the sports, and he was sometimes tasked with things that interfered with the social media stuff in "real time."

I had people ask how they did last night and I showed the score to them on my phone. They said it was unbelievable that we beat them by that many points.

I was familiar with how the Athletic Dept. was run back in the early 2000s, and back then, there was just a handful of full time staff people. Yet with the help of some student volunteers/interns, the websites had much more info and were updated much more quickly and efficiently than now. Now there are many times the people working in the athletic dept. but the websites have very little information for fans.
Compare with the content on the basketball websites of the other teams we play, and there is a big difference.

disagree, they sure don't get info on ESPN, that's just a box score and a short AI generated blurb that has little info. The PJStar didn't have a report until the next morning- nearly noon,
plus their website is miserably hard to navigate to find Bradley coverage.
and when I want to check on another MVC game, I go to the website of the home team, and they usually have a thorough story up
within an hour or two after end of game.
I'd love to know the numerous sources you go to that push the "team website ... well down the list of where people go to get their information". Maybe if we were Duke or UK, there's a lot or reports everywhere, but nobody has much of anything on mid-majors.

addendum - FGCU just completed their game an hour ago and already they have a long, thorough game story with
stats, box score and comments from the coach & players. ONE HOUR
So why does it take our department 15 hours? I'm not asking them to do it for me, I just think doing it is part of the very basics of running your Athletic Department.

One more thing, I scrolled way back to 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 and checked every one of those games on the BRADLEY official team website.
In almost all those games a full recap & game story was posted to the website within a couple hours after the game ended - and in
EVERY SINGLE case the story was posted before 5am the next morning. Not a single exception. Heck, that far back
people were practically still using typewriters and word processors - how'd they do it back then that we can't do it now?

Forgive me for not knowing but does BU have a SID anymore? Did someone replace Bobby Parker? I would think this would be the person/place to voice our concerns to.

I don't think Parker has been the SID for at least a couple years. Last year they put him into the position of "senior associate athletic director for event and facility operations " (whatever that is) and the year before (in July 2022) he was in the ticket sales position, which is a very important position but almost sounded like a step down. ( LINK )
Currently, and for the past couple years, there is nobody listed in the Athletic Dept. Directory as being involved in "Sports Information" or SID.

Also, Rocky Vonachen, who had been in the Athletic Dept for 5-6 years, is no longer listed in the Directory, and his
position is now filled by Parish Mason, a Richwoods grad & son of former Bradley Brave Gus Mason. Parish was hired at Bradley in October of 2024.
