Let’s hope we don’t go cold on the 3’s after the long break. Luckily, we have so many good 3 point shooters, chances are someone will be on!
Have fun, guys! Wish I could join you!

Interesting that Santa Clara is participating in two three-game events in the same season, the first being in Sioux Falls. I was at that event and saw them defeat St. Louis. I wasn't too impressed with St. Louis and Santa Clara played to St. Louis' level, just a little bit better to win. They won't be a push-over for Bradley, but I would be surprised if Bradley loses. IMO, they should defeat Santa Clara.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

Santa Clara easily beat Fresno State last night. SCU built a 24 point lead in the 2nd half, and coasted to an 81-66 win to improve to 5-5.

DC, I'm surprised you didn't mention any of the history between Bradley and Santa Clara. Maybe 'cause there isn't any. But what about the Cable Car Classic back in the 1995-96 season? I believe it was hosted by Santa Clara. In the first round games, Santa Clara lost to Penn St (by 21 points) and Bradley beat Georgia Tech (by 2 points); The next days games Bradley lost to Penn St (by 3 points) and Santa Clara beat Georgia Tech (by 5 points). Penn St went on to tie for the B10 title and lost in the first round of the NCAA as a 5 seed. Georgia Tech won the ACC and got to the Sweet 16 as a 3 seed. Earlier that season, Santa Clara opened up with a win over #4 UCLA then lost to #3 Villanova and then beat Michigan State at the Maui Classic. Santa Clara tied for 1st in the WCC that year, then lost in their conference tourney. They got an At-Large bid to the NCAA and as a 10 seed and they knocked off Maryland before losing to Kansas. That season was the year Bradley lost at #3 Villanova, but man... if Zobes doesn't go down with an ankle injury, I think we woulda got them. Villanova finished second in the Big East and made it to the Round of 32 as a 3 seed. That MVC season included the awesome overtime games with Tulsa at home and on the road which we won both. We lost in the MVC Tourney title to Tulsa (pretty bad) but still got an At-Large bid and as a 9 seed we lost to Stanford led by Brevin Knight. Tulsa got an 11 seed in the NCAA and lost by 2 in OT to Louisville.

So - we may not have any history with Santa Clara yet... but when I think of Santa Clara, I think of that 1995-96 season and in-season tourney they hosted. Man - that was a good year!

Yes, Macabre, you are right, '95-'96 was a great year. The Cable Car Classic was hosted by Santa Clara from 1977 through 2015. As you said, Bradley played Georgia Tech and Penn State, but did not play the host Santa Clara in the 1995 event. That was Steve Nash's senior year at Santa Clara. I was there for those games December 29 & 30, 1995. We stayed in San Francisco, back when it was safe and drove down to San Jose for the games. The Cable Car Classic was played in the relatively new San Jose Arena at that time (now called the SAP Center).
The BU-Georgia Tech game was one of the best games I ever watched. They were a loaded team with 3 starters who went on to play in the NBA. They were lead by freshman All-American guard Stephon Marbury and a big-body forward Matt Harpring, both of whom were 1st round NBA picks and went on to long NBA pro careers. They also had Drew Barry, son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, who was a 2nd round NBA pick.
Bradley was lead by Anthony Parker, who hit from everywhere on the court for 29 points. Bradley also had Aaron Zobrist, Deon Jackson, Dwayne Funches, Bayo Akinkunle, Billy Wright, and Chad Kleine. The Braves hung close with them all game, then pulled off the 84-82 win. We enjoyed celebrating the win, but unfortunately, the next night, they lost a close game (72-75) to a very good Penn State team that, as you said, tied for the Big Ten title.
Bradley went to the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team, and lost to Stanford 66-58 in Providence, RI. Anthony Parker scored 34 of Bradley's 58 points in that game, but everyone else had an off-game.

I have some great memories of that year as well. Wasn’t that the MVC tournament year that featured “the shot” … or was that perhaps the year prior. What I remember for sure in’96 was being 19 and having my then girlfriend surprise me with a trip on the fan bus down to the championship game against Tulsa. Back then, I believe the championship game was on Monday night at 7 or 8 p. We left from the field house (after my ICC class) with a bunch of rowdy, excited acults and had the time of our life on that trip. Even with the loss. Those bus tickets sealed the deal for me and I married her and we are still together.
                  Compete. Defend. Rebound. Win.

Ah, the game at Villanova. I was there! I was attending a meeting in Philly, hopped a bus to the campus, and was rewarded with one of the most memorable games I've witnessed. Bradley fought hard -- literally fought, especially Ben Coupet -- after Deon Jackson got elbowed in the mouth, lost one tooth, and chipped another. And yes, Aaron Zobrist was on fire until he badly sprained his ankle. Still, the Braves almost pulled the big upset. A great memory.
                    Yajusneverno!

One Peoria Central great also starred at Santa Clara...
                      Rhea Taylor

Peoria Central's Rhea Taylor averaged 19 ppg for Santa Clara in his 1991 All-WCC senior season.
                      No
...also was MVP of the Cable Car Classic before Deon Jackson was MVP the year Bradley played there.

Yes it was 1996!!! Too bad we didn't take care of bizness vs Tulsa in the championship game.
For the NCAA tourney that year, I remember it well - as I was in college at IWU, and after lunch was so hyped to see the game, but didn't know it started so early!
When I returned to my dorm, the game was halfway thru the 2nd half and BU was down by a good margin vs Stanford. More than anything I was bummed that I had missed 3/4 of the game. From that point on, I don't think I've missed a single Braves game from NOT knowing the start time!

What a great group of guys that was, and really that core is what drew me to being and staying a Bradley fan since 1993-'94. I remember watching the games between 1994-'97 and seeing such great turnouts at Carver and was impressed by Braves' fans, and didn't really realize it until that period of time. Now I have no doubts that BU fans are the best in the Valley right now, and have had such a loyal fan base through thick and thin.

I have to say, as I reflect on Bradley teams over the years, this current group we have ranks in the Top 3 since (AND including) the '95-96 team...not necessarily based on talent, but because of the guys, their incredible bond, and high character and commitment to win for each other.

Yeah for sure I miss Mal and Hick. Probably a lot has to do with my growing appreciation and admiration for Hannah and Deen more than last season, and ever, realizing we have 2 solid sophomores in Burch and Altason, the emergence of Bully, and return of ZEEEEEK!
