Game Day!
Any fan who isn't sure they wanted to go to tonight's opening game, there are plenty of good tickets available.
Tickets - https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/070061309A4A1F1C
As the season progresses, there may not be as good a selection of seats, and other than possible showers through the day, the weather will be in the mid-60's. So it's a great day to go to a game!

One of today's predictions is that Bradley will lose "< 5 games all season"! - https://x.com/ryanhammer09/status/1853230553077789156
Wow, that would mean a record of 30-4 after Bradley wins the MVC Tournament!
I'm not sure I am that optimistic, but I hope he's right!

I would love to win 25, or even better, 30 games this season, but the only thing that matters in the end is taking home that MVC tournament championship. Just have us ready when that time comes, BW! I will travel anywhere in the US this year if we make the NCAA tournament!Larry Bird
I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

My initial impressions of this team:
Starters: Duke, Darius, and Zek were pretty unselfish and did what the team needed. They will have bigger scoring games. Darius's three stroke looked much improved (hopefully that translates at the line too) and his athleticism looked as smooth as ever. I expect a big year. Davis did his thing, and I still think he's going to be our number one perimeter defender this year (I said last year I thought he might). Atlason will be a big key this year. Some freshman type mistakes from him in the first half, but the scoring inside and especially from three, along with rebounding looked better albeit against not so great competition. I thought he would be one of the best shooters this program has had with the look of his stroke early last year, but he lost some confidence as the year went it seemed (though still a solid freshman year). I'm glad to see his stroke look great again tonight. If he can do that all year our starters will be very tough to matchup against. His shot form and stroke always look so pretty.
Bench: Meta was solid, though still slow on the glass and defense at times. Not as slow as last year though, so kudos to him for improving athletically a little bit at least. We will see how it plays against better teams, but he looked a little more fluid going up with the ball. I don't see him ever being a starter or super athletic, but hopefully he improved enough to be the solid backup we saw tonight against better teams. Bully was great to see as something that this team has been missing for a while - a tough guy who just gets to the line. I expect some freshman hiccups, but I was impressed tonight. Burch looked good and more under control this year. He will need to be a key 6th man this year. Thomas was ok at times, but I thought shot a little too much at times. Overall, his development will be important too to give us more big depth than just Meta. I like Thomas's potential.
Brian said Dillion is still recovering and was limited tonight, but I think having another shooter off the bench will be key (Burch and Johnson strike me more as drivers than shooters) and I hope he enters the rotation soon enough. That would give us 9-10 deep if Thomas and Meta both stay in the rotation long term, and that would be nice to have.
Depth Guys: Not much to say on Timo, Linke, and Biliew, they seem to be 11-13 right now in the order. That is probably what everyone would have expected coming in.
Overall good start outside of a little sloppy play to be expected this early on. Our free throws even looked pretty good tonight. Friday seems huge if we realistically want an at large shot. Let's come out and make it 2-0!

Yes, Bradley can go 9 or 10 deep and still get quality minutes from everyone, though the top 6 or 7 players will probably need to play bigger minutes in the toughest games. The first extended look at Jaquan Johnson was a pleasant surprise. He handled SEMO's pressure quite well and ended with 15 points, equalling Christian Davis for the team lead. CD looked really good and more confident than he has the last couple seasons.
Stats - https://bradleybraves.com/sidearmstats/mbball/media
Almar was terrific and will be a matchup problem for the other teams in the MVC. Darius, Zek and Duke didn't score a lot, but they were solid all game. Demarion Burch adds a ton of energy when he's on the floor. It's hard not to love his game. And Corey Thomas had 7 points and 4 rebounds in just 9 minutes. I'd love to see what he can do against a quality opponent and with 25-30 minutes of playing time.
Bradley gets a much tougher test on Friday against Washington State.
