Stats from junior season - Richardson averaged 18.5 points per game last season as a junior, and added 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks for a 21-12 Rams team that tied for fifth in the Big 12 Conference and won a Class 2A Regional championship. He was a Journal Star Class 2A all-area team selection and a unanimous all-Big 12 Conference first-team pick. He also was named to the IBCA's all-state second team and Illinois Media's all-state second team.
One thing I’m loving so far this year is Wardle still is going after and landing freshman to use and develop. In this day and age, the transfer portal seems to be how most teams rebuild, and while that can be helpful, it’s not sustainable for the long term health of a program. Of our best players the last 2 seasons, 3 were brought in as freshmen (Mast, Darius and Hick), one was an JuCo transfer (Malevy) and only one (Duke Deen) was a D-1 transfer. Landing these high quality freshmen gives you building blocks of the future. Wardle seems to be good at getting people to stay for 3-4 years too, at least based on the past few seasons. We don’t seem to have as much turnover as other MVC schools. Landing young talent, developing them, and using the transfer portal only to plug the gaps seems to be how you remain atop the league nowadays.
I was busy yesterday and now have found out from Peoria journal star BU landed D.Richardson!!!! I read the first time in 35 years we were able to get a local manual recruit!!!! This next class insures Bradley I believe will be at the top of the Valley for years to come! I'm just so elated we scored huge on this local recruit!!! Finally We are able to recruit with the high majors by getting two 4 star recruits! So excited for Bradley Basketball to get back to the storied program that it was known for!
We may have 3 freshman in the starting lineup next year i.e. Wheeler, Zobrist and Richardson.
I would not go that far because Burch will have a lot to say about that plus Johnson will be in the mix. These 3 freshman are really good but they have a lot of work to do before i would stipulate they will be starters in 2025 2026. This is a great start to the recruiting for next season yet we still need forwards and another center. I predict we go with more experience like JUCOS or transfers to fill those positions.
I am very happy that these 3 players chose Bradley.
