  • Lathan Sommerville

Rutgers held an open scrimmage yesterday - guess who was one of the players that got the most attention in the writeups?

Their beat writer suggests Lathan Sommerville can push their presumed starting center for minutes -

One-time Bradley recruit (Bradley was the first offer he received) and now a freshman at Rutgers, Lathan Sommerville, made his college debut last night as Rutgers beat Wagner College 75-52. Lathan had a nice game, scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high 8 rebounds off the bench.
He got a nice writeup in the local news (the Asbury Park Press) - https://www.app.com/story/sports/col...r/76037667007/

Shoulda been a Brave. We coulda had a Zobrist/Sommerville team up next year.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I'll toss in $5 to the NIL group to make that happen!

Another nice game by Lathan Sommerville tonight as Rutgers beats Monmouth 98-81 to improve to 3-0. Nice to see him doing so well. - https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...an-sommerville

Lathan had 10 points and a team-high 7 rebounds off the bench. Through their first 3 games, Lathan is averaging 11.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg, and shooting 13-23 (57%). He is clearly their best big man, and is now 2nd on the team in scoring and leading the team in rebounding. Maybe he'll be starting by the time they start playing Big Ten games.

Great for Lathan. Really happy he’s doing so well early in his freshman year.

He is so fundamentally sound and skilled for a freshman playing in just his third D1 game. He is only going to get better. I think he'll be playing in the NBA in a few years. The Sommervilles are a tremendous family.
