SIU reportedly is finalizing a contract for Wright State coach Scott Nagy at $600,000 per year for 6 years - https://twitter.com/VarnRiverRadio/s...69874334576641

That is a ridiculous amount for a new coach. It puts him near the top of the MVC in coaching salaries. I believe only Ben Jacobson and Brian Wardle exceed that salary.

Very surprised that a state school would offer that amount of money to Nagy, who has only held lower D1 coaching jobs. I can justify it more with someone like Martin who has coached at P5 schools. I think Nagy is a great hire...but maybe not at $600k right out of the gate.

Dayton business journal stated in 2023 Nagy made 557 k. So I don’t think 600 is in any way unreasonable. I’m actually surprised it wasn’t a bit more…..

It is a good hire. Nagy had a .667 win percentage at Wright State with 2 NCAA & NIT appearances (1 was COVID yr so no games) in 8 seasons. He averaged 21 wins a season there. And he was making $500,000/yr. So SIU had to give more than that to get him. Also, inflation...$600,000 today is about $450,000 a few years ago...that is one of the reasons schools want to lock coaches down with longer term contracts.

In practical terms it is a bit more as the cost of living in Carbondale is probably less than in Dayton. Hope this works out for both SIU and Nagy.
My first BU hoops game was on 12/30/1963. My dad took me to watch the Braves defeat Arizona 67-59. He helped me get Coach Orsborn's autograph before the game.

Belmont's data, since they're private - is not certain but Casey Alexander is making right up there at the top of all MVC coaches $850-900K
Despite coaching Belmont’s women’s basketball team to March Madness wins over Gonzaga University and the University of Oregon, head coach Bart Brooks made nearly $500,000 less than men’s head coach Casey Alexander. From July 2021 to May 2022, Alexander was paid an estimated $942,280 while Brooks received an estimated $444,144, according to Belmont University’s 2021 IRS 990 form. With both the men's and women's 2023-24 basketball seasons beginning Monday, the Belmont Vision – using publicly avai

I'm guessing $500,000-$600,000 is about the minimum to get a decent coach in the valley now...It will likely continue to increase.
