Barkema was a 2022 recruit of Andrea Gorski from Story City, Iowa. She kept her commitment despite the 2022 coaching change, and played 2 seasons for new coach Kate Popovec.
Her freshman season (2022-23), she played in 32 games, all of them off the bench. She averaged 12 minutes per game, 3.2 ppg, 1.0 rpg, and 0.4 apg.
Her sophomore season (2023-24) she played in 30 games and started 25 of them. She averaged 29.6 minutes per game, 6.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 1.1 apg.
