This Braves fan lives in So Cal and only commutes one day a week to work. As luck would have it, it's Wednesday and so, most weeks, I can hook up my phone to the car and listen to the games on WMBD. I've now listened the last 3-4 weeks and I want to vent and get opinions from others. I apologize in advance that this going to be negative on a mostly positive board, but I'll try to do it with some class

I should say, when I went to Bradley, yes I'm that old, there were two choices, Mort Kantor and Dave Snell for the road games (I went to all of the home games at the old Field House). I listened to Dave back then as I was a college student and he appealed to me. He was great. Alley-oop Kaboom, here comes the Tomahawk gang on the scoot, stuck on a number, etc. I remember him being so good he was offered a job with the Phx Suns but turned it down to stay at the Hilltop.

He's still really good, his enthusiasm, knowledge of the game, love for Bradley are all still there.

I'm sure Chad is the nicest guy in the world. But how long have he and Dave been a team and whose hair-brained idea was it to partner someone with Dave?
You literally can tell better what's happening in the game by listening to the crowd than by what the team is telling you because Chad steps over Dave all game long. And I understand he's a former player, but he rarely adds anything of value, he's just there to root for the Braves, a fine idea, but I can do that all by myself. Not that it's every going to happen, but I'd prefer they let Dave do the play-by-play himself, let Chad talk at half time and before and after the game if he must. If that doesn't work, they should figure out how to be a broadcast TEAM.

Sigh, and end of rant, thanks for reading. Does anyone out there agree?

I rarely listen to the radio team, so I'm not sure I can add much. There was only 1 game this year, the Duquesne game played at LeBron James' Akron high school that did not have any available video stream. It was the first time I've listened to the radio PBP in a couple years.
There are great broadcast teams, and poor ones, and everywhere in between. I can't say the Bradley radio team is the best of the best, but I do enjoy their work.

For someone who syncs the radio to the TV for nearly every game, I can speak to it.

For starters, it's remarkable how good Snell still is, for as long as he has been doing it. He still has the same cadence, catch phrases and overall game production that he has had for decades now. Does he slip up here and there more than in the past? Sure, there is an occasional wrong name, delay on calling the right guy or incorrect callout of the score. But, he's still really tremendous.

As for Chad, I'd say I probably fall on the more pro-side of the debate than against, but he's far from perfect. The talking over Snell can get frustrating at times, although I probably give it more of a pass because I'm still watching it on TV so if I miss two passes because they are both talking, it isn't a huge deal to me. I also think that Chad's knowledge of the game rules is spot on and he's got a pretty sharp eye these days for observing what a referee is calling most of the time. I also like that he's a homer but also isn't afraid to call out when the refs/team/coaching is not up to par. I think if he just slowed down more and not jumped on Snell's call as frequently, he'd go from a good analyst to a great one.

And no matter what, they are always better than whoever is on the broadcast for the day on TV. If I have to hear about our recruiting in the Scandinavian countries one more time ... whew ...
      Go Braves!

I also get tired of Chad talking to much and interrupting Dave.He makes some good points once in awhile but he is not a coach. He was a mediocre player when playing and acts like he knows more than coach at times.

I've heard some of those mentions by TV broadcasters about Bradley recruiting Scandinavia.
For the record, the broadcasters who mention Bradley's recruiting in Scandinavia, don't know their geography.
The historical definition of Scandinavia refers to the countries of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. I don't think Bradley has ever recruited anyone from those 3 countries. - https://www.mappr.co/thematic-maps/s...ian-countries/

Some definitions of Scandinavia might include the northern part of Finland that is part of the Scandinavian peninsula (see below), but the only Bradley recruit from Finland was Ville, who was not from that part of the country. He was from Helsinki in the far southern tip of the country.
The Netherlands has never been considered a Scandinavian country.

Mediocre is a subjective term, but I think he was a little better than mediocre. For what it's worth, he is 70th on the all-time scoring list with 873 points.

Thanks gang, part of my annoyance is I'm listening while driving, so I'm not watching on tv. The job of a radio team is to "paint the picture". As someone noted, Dave does it pretty well still, but Chad is constantly interrupting, without adding value. I think Da Coach is right, quality varies widely, but this is "my" team, and I was hoping for better

Chad is fine and he has to correct Dave many times. Dave obviously has gotten older and has lost a step or two and because of that and Chad has to help out in that regard. Chad knows and understands the game which is also why they need him to explain his point of view from a players perspective. I am not knocking Dave because he still does a great job yet he was much better at it years ago.

Off topic but, speaking of announcers. What did everyone think of the announcers of the Evansville game? My wife came into the room and even commented on it. I can’t quote her, but it was something to the effect of why are you watching an old game when they’re playing right now? Then she saw it was the live game and couldn’t believe it. It was brutal.

Suggestion. During the game, report the score more often. Thank you.

A great radio team was Dave Snell and Dave Snell as the voice of Coach Joe Stowell.

They were huge homers. Announcers need to realize who their audience is. At least half the viewers are going to be Bradley fans, so they should have avoided the orgasmic reactions every time Evansville scored.

I liked the Evansville announcers. I thought they were fair minded and complimentary of the Braves.

I've got a theory that if you give 100 percent all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end.

I was referring more to the quality of their broadcast. It sounded like they were doing it from their bedroom. No excitement. No emphasis. It was either their dryness or the audio was off, but if it wasn’t a Bradley game I’d have fallen asleep. Put those guys on a Mo St.-Belmont game, I’m snoozing by halftime.

They were homers, but if they were orgasmic I missed it. (I could have tuned that out of been screaming at the TV too) They were just drab.
