  • Indiana State finally ranked

It should have happened weeks ago, but at least voters are coming to their senses:

Indiana State is ranked for the first time since Larry Bird played in Terre Haute. The Sycamores are on a nine-game winning streak and have one of the nation's best-shooting teams.

I know this was mentioned briefly in another thread but they have been really amazing this year and while I would love to be in their place, they've really earned it. I hope they win out to the Valley title game so they can sew up an at large and decent seed and see if we can topple them there in STL.

It would really help Indiana State if we would get back to our winning ways. We are their only Q1 win and if they don’t win it all in St Louis making that win look as good as possible is critical for their at large chances.

There's no question they have earned it. Everyone thought they would be better this year and be a contender, but few of us had them running away with the regular season title. They return almost everyone of importance next year, so they could be tough for years into the future unless Schertz gets hired away.. Their only players with no more eligibility left are reserve guards Xavier Bledson (6.6 ppg) and Jake Wolfe (2.2 ppg). Reserve guard, Julian Larry, and starter Jayson Kent are both 4th year seniors, but they qualify for an extra Covid year if they choose to return. So they will likely return their entire starting 5, and top 5 scorers next season.

DC, their coach took a team that hadn't been winning into a 23 ranking in just under three years. Don't you think he may be getting some job offerings which might include taking players with him?

It is great to have a ranking for an MVC team.

I could see players leaving for more money. Indiana could use some shooting guards.

Yeah, as much as their coach getting hired away, I'd worry about players leaving almost as much. I have friends who mostly follow the Big Ten and they all wish they could have him on their squads.

If they run the table to the championship game, they'd be 30-3. That's kind of getting in BU-Hersey Hawkins territory right? Especially because I bet even if they win out they probably get no higher than like an 8 seed. Admittedly too young to know how well it compares but just an interesting potential parallel. (I know they don't have a future NBA all star, so I get it's a little different.)

Ranking is deserved, but a lot of people have rightly pointed out today after the rankings were released that Indiana State really does not have a big signature win. BU being their only Quad 1 win is not a great statement for them, and will be worse if BU loses a few more games. ISUb also has not beat a ranked team. However, they don't have a bad loss and the higher overall ranking of the MVC (9th) as a conference is helping them out this year. Definitely a deserved ranking.

I thought the same thing. Mast headed to Nebraska and I could see Avila heading to a B10 team as with his size and shooting ability you teams are going to come calling

Great to see Indiana State ranked! I think they have a good shot at going deep in the NCAA Tournament. Hopefully they win out in the regular season, lose in the MVC finals, and go on a big NCAA Tournament run.

Hoping they don't stumble, looks like the game at SIU could be the toughest one left on the schedule til Arch Madness. Sadly - it won't surprise me to see them in an 8/9 game in NCAA Tourney. Maybe they need just one more loss to bump them down a seed line or more. Its a lot less difficult getting to the Sweet 16 when you don't have to go through a 1 seed.

I really like their top 6 players, but I'm not sure they have the depth needed to make a deep run.

I seriously doubt that they get an 8 seed. You have to remember the BCS schools get the better seeds even though some do not earn them. The most important thing about your first round seed is your matchup and location.

Well - the Mid Major Curse looks to be alive and well. Get ranked - then lose. I know the game isn't over yet but things are looking a little shaky for the Trees, losing to the Redbirds at home. Lol!

Oh - and this is probably a gift for the Trees as it should knock them down their seeding line.
