  • Notes on Some Underrated Illinois 08 Talent

PAT BENNINGER OF MIDSTATEHOOPS.COM GOES OFF THE RECORD TO GIVE SOME MUSINGS ON RECRUITING AS IT PERTAINS TO SOME OF THE STATE’S TOP TALENT: I am very shocked to see Jeremy Leonard (De La Sall…

I like what they said about Leonard...are we recruiting him? How about Byron Woods?

I haven't heard any of these names mentioned by anyone at Bradley.
There have been so many of the top ranked 2008 players who have already committed, yet every year other talent emerges in their senior year. It will be interesting to follow those kids' progress.

scout-- I read the report/blog on midstatehoops, and as always, I thank you for linking us to this info and up to date coverage. But I have several questions...........

--I have heard that Verdell Jones is closer to 6-2 or 6-3 and 140lbs, and as good as he is, that's one of the reasons schools are laying off-because of his thin frame.
There was also a reference on another IL prep website to Verdell's health issues.

--In the paragraph on Darieus Perry, you mention "Southern Missouri State"
That name is one of the alternate names that Southwest Missouri State used to go by, but I know of no such school as "Southern Missouri State".
Are you sure you aren't referring to SIU-E which is making the jump from DII to DI?
Or maybe you mean "Missouri Southern", but I have not heard they are jumping to D-I.
Missouri Southern made headlines a few years ago (not one of Chris Lowery's finer moments), and here is the reminder:
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

--I have also read that Steve Goins has grown to nearly 7 ft.

--What was the issue that all the local schools seemed to shy away from Demond Watt?

--lastly...although it was a loooong time ago, I am a grad of TF South in Lansing, and wonder about one of their present players, Paris Carter.
TF South's best athletes in the past 25 years were Curtis Granderson of the Detriot Tigers, and Pierre Thomas, formerly of the University of Illinois and now on the New Orleans Saints.
Historically TF South has never done well in basketball due to lack of development and definite lack of coaching. Many of the best kids at the local junior high schools (like DeShawn Dockery) bolt from Lansing and go to high school somewhere else.
Is this going to hurt Paris Carter?
