  • Johnson and Deen

Jumping ahead I know. Hope Duke Deen decides on coming back for one more year. That with the addition of Jaquon Johnson should make next year very interesting. Of course I see Deen as the starter with Johnson backing him up until the following year when Johnson will be the man running the point. What better way to get ready by studying Deen during games and learning until it is his turn.

Bradley will have multiple additional scholarships for 2024. I would not be surprised to see at least one more guard, possibly with point guard skills, added to the mix for next year.

Not only will Ja'Quan learn from Duke, but a mighty fine Brave to help him in DB Jr with development.

How many will we have? 2 open but committed for. Linke and Billiew probably open.
Any rumors on Dean and Darius? I would love both of them back. Then the portal especially CH. Could apply to both Dean and Darius also.

Probably will have 5- Leon's, Linke, Biliew, Pettigrew, & Ellis (guessing about Linke & Biliew).
2 are committed ( Johnson, Van Dee Knaap). Could have more. I think Deen and Hannah will graduate, but could return. Always possible there could be others.

It’s just hard to know who will be on any team year to year now. I think Deen and Hannah are at the right level to maximize their success and play big roles, so if they play I like to think they’ll be here. Hick seems like a Bradley/Wardle guy the way he plays.

A lineup next year of Deen, Hick, Davis, Atlason, Hannah with Burch and Thomas playing big minutes would be lethal from three and still pretty big. Atlason needs to really work on his defense and athleticism this offseason. He has the potential as he’s shown some good defense and driving moves on offense at times. I think he’d be a nice natural four man in the Leons mold of hitting outside but still having some height and post moves. Obviously he needs to close the defensive gap to fill that role. Doesn’t have to be as great as Leons on that end, but still needs to be better. I think Davis can be a really good defender with a little more work. He’s shown great smarts and length with his arms at times despite fouling shooters too much.

I never assume I know anything about freshman and how ready they are until I see them in games, so I’ll wait on Johnson. Point guard is tough and Brian makes sure they can play some defense first. I’d like to think he’d be a nice bench spark plug scorer. I’d still like another taller point guard, a backup wing for Hick/Davis (if not a starter to challenge Davis on the wing), a Leons type stretch four (I don’t know if van der Knaap can be that), and a big man (or develop Meta’s athleticism quite a bit). So basically one more player at every level. We should have at least three more rides to fill all those needs. I would imagine if Biliew and Linke graduate they’ll move on.

There is really no way to know or anticipate whether valuable guys like Deen and Hannah will return to Bradley next season or transfer. Obviously, most Bradley fans hope they stay. But, most high majors, and even some mid-major programs have generous sponsors and supporters who fund NIL payments for players that may appear better than Bradley. If they need an experienced point guard like Duke or multi-talented big man like Darius, it will be tempting for those guys.

Fans can help by supporting the Home of the Brave NIL program. Buy merchandise with Duke's or Darius' name, or buy the Brave Brew beer locally.

This is my question about HOTB. Is the only way to support them to buy their merchandise? Can you contribute directly to help build the fund? I know of at least one if not more Braves fan that would set up a recurring monthly contribution to the organization. Even those on a budget. Pledge $20-$200/mo. We all know the Metro Peoria area has always supported BU basketball. I’m certain those with a couple extra bucks laying around would contribute. If not, well at least the option is out there for those that would. This may be against NIL rules so I may be talking out of turn, but MM programs need to think outside the box a little I think. In my opinion this could turn into a decent revenue source for the HOTB. However, like I said, only if it’s within the rules of NIL. Maybe it’s not, that’s why the option isn’t there. Just a thought.

It is possible to donate directly to the Home of the Brave NIL collective.
On the front page (https://hotbrave.com/) if you scroll down a bit, there is a button to click on the "DONATE NOW"--> https://hotb.pledgeperwin.com/
However, when I click on that, it leads to a dead end. So hopefully, someone will get that fixed.

This Frequently Asked Questions page has links that lead to other web pages about donating or getting involved--> https://hotbrave.com/pages/faq

I believe that giving money directly to players or to a fund that gives to players sits on the blurred line of what is a VIOLATION of NIL rules.
The players can ONLY be compensated for the NAME, IMAGE, or LIKENESS, such as an endorsement, sale of their
apparel or memorabilia, a personal appearance, autograph, etc. As it is now, the experts and lawyers are still debating what is and isn't allowed,
and states are still working to create laws to cover this. If they are paid directly then all kinds of employer-employee and tax laws kick in.
My guess is that the "Donate" link on HOTB is inactive for a reason - they don't want to get embroiled in violations or lawsuits.

I wish the hospitals and caterpillar would get involved. Bu players could make several appearances at their events for signing and to interact with their employees and families. It would be great for the children's hospital. Those companies have deep pockets and it would build great relationships with the community. Everyone wins. If they got involved with bu it would be a game changer.

The NCAA recently abandoned any effort to enforce rules regarding NIL groups - https://www.sportico.com/leagues/col...ee-1234768948/

So now it is possible for fans to donate directly to the NIL groups, and know that the money will go toward supporting the players and keeping them at Bradley.

If everyone donates a little, there is a much better chance Bradley's players don't end up transferring elsewhere.
