They could easily make it 2 if UIC can execute.

Double OT. Hopefully they keep playing and tire themselves out for tomorrow.

#11 seed UIC comes up big over and over to upset #6 seed SIU- Final score UIC 84 SIU 82 in 2 OTs
Box score for the UIC Flames vs. Southern Illinois Salukis NCAAM game from March 7, 2024 on ESPN. Includes all points, rebounds and steals stats.

Xavier Johnson fouled out with 27 points, and his absence at the end of the 2nd overtime was noticeable. The rest of the Salukis hit some big shots, especially when they came back from double-digit deficits, but overall they shot a low percentage, and couldn't finish when they needed to at the end of the 2nd OT.
Isaiah Rivera did his best Xavier Johnson impression for UIC with 28 points. Toby Okani had a poor game and fouled out with just 2 points.

Bradley will play UIC Friday at 8:30pm

If I could pick my opponent I'd definitely take UIC even though they have been playing better. I think we just matchup better.

That 4th foul in regulation he committed on purpose because SIU only had 5 fouls as a team really hurt their chances.

They are not a great 3 point shooting team. We just need to keep them from driving down the lane and making layups.

Which is where the SWAT Squad excels.

Anybody else dragging today? Golly, 2 OTs in the 6-11 late game. Huge factor for us, but it’s gonna be a LONG day today. Might need to sneak in a nap before our game tonight.

lol I stayed up and watched that game last night, was really entertaining imo despite some pretty poor shooting and sloppy play at times. Kept getting more and more exciting at the end of regulation and each OT.

                              …keep them from driving…..
3 comments about Bryan Mullins’ strategy…
                              - they played weak defense in the lane- allowing drives endlessly to the hoop and giving up 50 pts in the paint. If this was Mullins’ plan, it makes such little sense since UIC is a bad outside shooting team.
                              - if it truly was Mullins’ idea for Xavier Johnson to give a foul just to advance the foul count into the bonus, then it was a VERY bad move to have Johnson do it instead of subbing in some designated fouler or have someone else give the foul. It ended up costing Mullins his star in OT.
                              - Trent Brown gave SIU some early offense, but Brown is slow, small & unathletic & repeatedly got beat for easy UIC layups. In the end, he may have cost them as much as he produced.
                              - unusual to see SIU give up 84 on 50% shooting, get outrebounded and create just 10 TO IN 50 min, getting beat 50-24 in the paint.

Game 6 is ISU Blue vs Missouri State. ISU beat the Bears at home by 22 and by 2 in Springfield in a game that the Bears had their chances. If the Missouri State team plays motivated like they did yesterday they can give the Sycamores all they can handle. Have to control the tempo and make it physical.
