NCAA to change structure of Division I- to create subdivision that pays players directly

If we thought the NIL rules were luring athletes to transfer or sign with the big schools, this will supercharge that effect. Every kid who leads his team in scoring and rebounding will want to jump to a school that pays him directly for his performance, and not just his NIL.

I wonder, though, if this will allow contracts. If so, teams could sign players to contracts of more than one year the players have to pay back if they violate them? Two and four year deals could be allowed in my ideal world. Maybe a player would agree to a four year one if they don’t want to risk injury or ineffectiveness at a Bradley.

Could non-compete clauses be in them for a year after leaving (basically making it the old sit out one year rule)? If done correctly, maybe it could be better than the free for all that happens right now.

This certainly does not help smaller schools as far as competing. I also saw where there are many lawsuits about not letting players transfer more then once without penalty.
