  • MVC Shootaround

This summer espn.com is doing a summer update of each conference. The Valley one was posted today:
Southern Illinois is making the financial commitment -- to both the program and coach Chris Lowery -- to continue to be one of the best mid-majors in the country, writes Jeff Shelman.

Not much said!!! Very disapointing but what do you expect from ESPN?

One thing I noted, is that the main bulk of the whole piece is how great SIU is...
That's fine, they deserve the mention,
but look how much they devote to Chris Lowery's mega-salary and how they're apparently going to pay for it, including the mention of a sales tax increase??
and look how mush they have on Anthony Booker...
and he is a 2008 recruit, and isn't even going to be playing for SIU for over a year, so I don't know what the hey he has to do with this story?

(ps...why is the city of Carbondale obligated to tax its people to help the state university??
      Anyone have an answer.............?)

The one thing that caught my attention was the mention that Chicago is actively pursuing the MVC to get the tourney to come to Chicago. I knew that Kansas City was also trying to get it but this is the first I've heard of Chicago being a possible destination. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

Yes. There was an article about a month ago that lead to a discussion here and on other MVC message boards about Chicago, as well as Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City now showing interest in the MVC Tournament--

O ya, I member that. I really hope that the tourney stays in STL. I suppose there are more BU alumni in Chicago but I really look forward to going to STL for a weekend every year, it's where I started attending the tournament and that's where I hope it stays. I think attendence would take a huge hit if they moved it to Omaha, Des Moines, or Kansas City.

I wouldn't mind Chicago at all, it's actually a little closer than St. Louis for me, and Des Moines wouldn't be too terribley bad, but Omaha and Kansas City would be out of the question as far as me getting there as a student.
