  • Rivals: Cast your vote for top Mid-Major Conference

The two Rivals writers pick the A-10 and C-USA, but I am voting for the Valley.
(In fact, the Valley is leading right now - so everyone keep voting!)

Fans of other Valley teams....post this on your boards so the Valley will get more votes

Unless I'm doing something wrong it appears you must have a Rivals membership in order to vote

Drat....I guess I didn't realize that since I must have the stored cookie.
Oh well, then I guess it takes away from any validity the survey would have,
but I'd still like to see the Valley win the vote.
Since it records each url and you can only vote once from each computer, I will find a way to "vote for you", ahem...if you know what I mean, B4L.

Most college basketball people do not consider the Atlantic 10 or the Conference USA as midmajors. Every "Midmajor" ranking that I can find does not include teams from those 2 conferences.

That means if we believed these 2 writers, the real midmajors get screwed again, even when we're talking just about midmajors.

        Is Memphis a midmajor?

CollegeInsider.com is the site with the most respected and prominent Midmajor ranking.

They consider everyone a midmajor who is not a member of the 10 major "power" conferences--
ACC, Atlantic 10, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, C-USA, Mountain West, Pac-10, SEC and WAC.

Here is an article from 2005 that defines the midmajors-- see the 6th paragraph--

But, here is another definition from Wikipedia. They consider the top 6 conferences to be the only clear majors--ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, SEC, and Pac 10.
They say the A-10, CUSA, WAC, and Mountain West now can be considered midmajors because they have fallen to the level of other midmajors like the MVC! So apparently some do believe the definition of a midmajor can change every year based on how well the conferences perform. And they say that some conferences that may be considered midmajors, may have 1 or 2 teams that rise above the rest and can be considered majors, like Gonzaga and Memphis.
        I think this is ridiculous.

I saw that. I agree with Wikipedia that every conference outside of the "big six" BCS conferences should be considered mid-major. Just my opinion, but obviously there is still a lot of debate over this.

I did however add the blurb about how football teams scheduling lower level I-A or I-AA recently backfired against Michigan! Go back to that link and scroll down to the very bottom of the football section. The last two sentences were the ones I just added on.
